I should have answers to this, but I don’t. Has anyone found a good way to deal with it?
My teen is not understanding when other teens are trying not to hurt his feelings but he doesn’t read the situation right.
He will make meet ups with other kids and then they will cancel on him. He always makes an excuse for them. It happens over and over.
I’m so tired of him being hurt by this.
Any suggestions?

I forgot to reorder meds. 😱. The day is not good. ADHD WITHOUT MEDS!!! I’m letting him play video games all day. He can’t keep his hands off people, can’t stop thumping and making noises, can’t stop talking like an auctioneer and making repetitive noises! I’m going to be crazy. Guess I’ve learned my lesson—reorder meds on time.

Remaining patient is sometimes more than I can accomplish. I understand that my child has a neurodevelopmental disorder....brain damage. He couldn’t follow a simple direction this morning (I.e. “Put it in the sink.”). He was just making Ramen, but was going to put the strainer on the counter then dump the water and noodles in it. I repeated “put it in the sink” 5 times and on the final time, I’m sure China heard me.
Obviously yelling didn’t help. I had to do it my self.
It’s only 9 a.m.
You will think...just step away. That wasn’t an option with hot water involved.
I guess I need to break down the task into smaller steps and do it several times over the next several days. Mind you, he has cooked noodles before. But what he knows how to do one day is no guarantee he knows today. More practice.
The people of China (and my neighbors) will appreciate that.

I know all the methods to use, you probably do to. But we’re human and in the moment, sometimes we just lose it.

Give yourself grace...God does.

With school beginning, it may be time to think about what information to share with your child's teacher(s).
Your child's teacher will be grateful for any information that may help in the classroom
Be sure to include:
1.Recent changes in family relationships,
friendships, even pets. You may not think your
child was affected by the goldfish dying, or auntie
moving away, but he/she may be.
2. Health or medication changes and allergies.
3. Behavioral strategies that work for your child.
4. Things that trigger meltdowns.
5. Make the teacher aware of any IEP's and
behavior plans.
6. Ask the teacher to include pertinent information
about your child's needs in their Sub. Folder.
(Teachers tend to forget this until there has been a
sub and problems arose.)

I recently vacationed with a group of 16 people, one with Asperger's, who is in her 70's. I hadn't realized the extent of her socially inappropriate behaviors until spending a week with her. There were three key areas she had challenges with: 1. name calling (ex. Where is that stupid Brian. You are a bunch of beer drinking loafers.); 2. modesty (She undressed in a public area where children and men were likely to walk by.); 3. Perseveration about food. (Continual talk about the next meal, even before we were finished with the current meal. She would eat all the snack foods unless they were taken away and hidden.)

My Aspie friend hasn't the faintest idea that what she is doing is disturbing or offensive to others. She needed to be told that name calling was socially unacceptable. She had to be explicitly directed to change clothes in the restroom with the door closed, and given the reason. She is an intelligent person, but at 75 years old, she has not been able to see social situations and copy appropriate behavior. She needs to be given the reasons for the behavior. Sometimes, the reasons are not good enough for her and she will darned well do as she pleases. Just like the rest of us do at times:)

Interesting article. Important for those of you with unvaccinated children and newborns.

Santa Fe Institute. "Whooping cough resurgence due to vaccinated people not knowing they're infectious?." ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 June 2015. .

The gist of the article is...those vaccinated with the current (1990 or after) vaccine, which contains components of the virus, can be carriers and transmit the virus, even though they do not exhibit symptoms.

The dramatic resurgence of whooping cough is due, in large part, to vaccinated people who are infectious but who do not display the symptoms, suggests a new study.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I dread the start of the school year. Two of my kiddos do fine at school, but the third has daily challenges. What makes it more challenging, is that I am a special education teacher at their school. So, during the school day, I may get calls, texts, or be stopped in the hallway to be informed of my kiddo's behavior. AND....I absolutely HATE homework! I work all day, get home and sometimes cook (most of the time my husband cooks), give three kids baths, do home work, and then off to bed. There is no time to go anywhere or do anything fun. It's such a rat race, it makes all of us cranky. We are seriously considering an independent study program for our student with challenges. With the new vaccine mandate, we may be home schooling all of them soon. We are not against vaccines, just against the mass quantities and unnecessary vaccines.

Vaccine legislation in California is a real concern. According to the website, National Vaccine information Center, personal and religious exemptions will still be valid if filed before Jan. 1, 2016.
Below is a quote from the site:
Quick Facts and Resources for California Residents

Quick Fact: On June 30, 2015 Governor Brown signed SB 277 and personal and religious belief exemptions will not be allowed in California, effective July 1, 2016. However, if a parent files a letter or affidavit stating beliefs opposed to immunization prior to Jan. 1, 2016 that exemption will apply until the next grade span. For more information, please read the statute below, and please register and log in on NVIC's Advocacy Portal for updates. The changes to California's exemption law can be read here.

It is that time of year again-- this time of year can be particularly challenging for those families with children on the spectrum. Here are some helpful tips from other parents.

Christmas is loud, bright, tasty, smells great and there's a lot of hugging going around. Sound great? Not if your child has Autism. You may need to make a lot of preparations, and some small sacrifices
