At Birdtown Coffee, we love sharing stories of local artists and entrepreneurs and telling THEIR story.

For this episode, we sat down with The 961 Collective owner, Shadi Ayoub, and discussed the lost art of printing on a 1950's Heidelberg printing press.

We became friends with Shadi in 2019 and became fascinated with his work. Soon after, we realized how cool and unique it would be if we could utilize The 961 Collective to help make our retail coffee bags. Shadi made it happen.

It’s crazy to think about how much goes into making a decaf coffee!

With Mountain Water Processed Decaf Coffee the green coffee is soaked in a water solution, which removes both the caffeine as well as other solubles in the coffee. The water is removed from the seeds and run through a special filter that captures caffeine molecules and allows them to be strained from the solution. The solution—now containing flavor compounds but no caffeine—is then reintroduced to the green coffee seeds, which reabsorb the soluble materials.

Make sure to pick up a bag of our decaf. It is made with heart and is super delicious!

Coffee vs Espresso

Pitting coffee and espresso against each other is like pitting two siblings against each other. Espresso is the bold-flavored, slightly-thicker-than-coffee drink that comes from finely-ground beans brewed with a high grounds-to-water ratio. Coffee, on the other hand, is a thinner, less concentrated liquid that generally has a milder flavor and the grounds used are coarser.

Both are a great option no matter how you choose to enjoy your coffee.
