I’ve lost my BEANS! 🫘

Not really. I’m just trying to make my own vanilla extract for the first time. It seems pretty straight forward which usually means I’m doing something wrong.

One bottle of liquor
2-3 vanilla beans per 100 mL of liquid
Time (shake it weekly for about 6 months)

Notes:

- What liquor do I use? Seems like this is a personal choice but I plan to try vodka for baking and bourbon for flavoring. I’ll report back after Christmas!
- My bottle is overflowing! Yep, I did the same thing. And shooting a shot before breakfast to deal with the overflow was not my finest moment.

It’s summer in Florida.

That means everything is growing and growing fast!

Today I did a big trim of our moringa tree which means I have a lot of leaves to dry! Moringa is super healthy and grows like a w**d down here! The kiddos grab leaves right off the tree when they’re in the yard, but I prefer to dry it and crush it into a powder for smoothies.

But let’s talk about camping food.

I love to make meals, but cooking outdoors over a (small) two burner stove can be limiting! It hard to cook in the rain and the pans can only be so big!

What day is it?

Sunday, of course.

But it’s also garlic prep day. If you’re like me, you dislike prepping garlic because your hands smell like garlic for days.

So why not prep a bunch of it all at once?? This is 5 heads of garlic from Rorabecks Plants and Produce because it’s the only place I’ll buy it. I trim and peel it, chop it in my ALDI USA chopper (it’s like a pull string to start a mower), put it in a plastic bag, make score marks and freeze it. Now it’s ready for me anytime I need it.
