Wanted to give a little update since there’s recently been quite the stir on another post in Havasu community page and we’ve had an increase in views.
When Ohana closed we stood on the fact God closed us. We had done everything in our power over several months leading up to the closure to save our business. Yes we made some bad financial decisions when we opened the Mustard Seed, which in turn forced us into some serious financial hardship, that combined with inflation, lack of employees, and declining sales (due to everyone being hit by rising housing costs and general life expenses) I was forced back to work in California, we had finally turned everything around and we were getting ready to revamp Ohana in June of 23, Unfortunately we could not settle our default with property management before we were locked out. We decided we couldn’t throw everything at the business one more time and jeopardize our family’s well being. We prayed and knew very quickly God wanted us to walk away. We waited to see if I got another job dispatch in California and I did not. It was time to move my trailer out of the camp spot I was living in. While there spending one last weekend, our family decided to go get some work done to an investment property we owned in NC. While there we all fell in love with the little town, and discussed staying. We were only here 6 weeks and my father’s world changed forever. His wife died and he showed exacerbated signs of dementia. It was evident he needed help. We moved him in with us and created a lifestyle/business we could work around my dad’s needs. God soon called us to start a Celebrate Recovery at the church we made as a second home church before we ever moved here. My dad is declining quick, and it’s been a very difficult road, but I know for certain we could not have done this in Havasu, and we certainly would never have started the ministry had we not moved.
On that note I’d like to wish Blaise the best! We are so excited to see Poke come back to Havasu. Blaise was a fan of Ohana for a long time. He has a culinary passion and will do amazing! Please support him! All he needs is sales, he’s got the vision, the passion, and a way better location! We look forward to visiting and trying your spot out sometime next year!
PS. We are still slinging tacos and hot dogs out of the food trailer here. It’s just way colder than havasu ever was!
