So I just bought a new toy that I am enthralled with. It is a dehydrator. I plucked some tomatoes from my beautiful kitchen garden and dehydrated them. I am going to make them into my Flock vegetable umami powder after I also powder some eggplants, sweet peppers, yellow squash, and thyme. It’s so fun.

I created this for those moments when you want to do something for someone, but you’re not quite sure what to send.

A loss. An illness. A difficult week. A new neighbor. Or simply someone who could use a little taking care of.

Each Comfort Box is prepared by me and filled with homemade soup, cheddar herb biscuits, small-batch cookies, cultured butter and two wooden soup spoons — all packaged and ready to give.

It’s meant to feel less like a gift basket and more like someone showed up at your door with something homemade.

Garden-to-table Eggplant Parmesan 🍆

These gorgeous eggplants came straight from my kitchen garden and became one of my favorite comfort-food dishes.

I slice the eggplant lengthwise, lightly bread and fry each piece until golden, then layer it with my homemade San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, Parmigiano-Reggiano and basil from the garden.

Rich, cheesy and satisfying, but still all about the eggplant.
