40 Acts of Aloha: Mokuʻula & Mokuhinia Pond
On Saturday, September 12, employees of Na Hoaloha ʻEkolu had the privilege of joining the nonprofit Nā ʻAikāne o Maui for a meaningful day of volunteer work at Mokuʻula and Mokuhinia Pond, the site of the former Hawaiian Royal Compound in the heart of Historic Lāhainā Town.
Our morning began with cultural protocol, followed by a presentation from Keʻeaumoku Kapu, who shared the history and cultural significance of this special place. We then mālama’d the ʻāina by working together to clear overgrown shrubs and vegetation from the property.
It was an eye-opening, educational, and deeply fulfilling experience for our employees who participated.
As we celebrate 40 years of Na Hoaloha ʻEkolu, our 40 Acts of Aloha initiative gives us an opportunity to give back, mālama our community, and honor the places and history that make Lāhainā so special.
Mahalo nui to Nā ʻAikāne o Maui for allowing us to be part of this important work and for continuing to mālama Mokuʻula and Mokuhinia Pond.

Na Hoaloha Ekolu welcomes new Managing Partners Judee Mae Aki, Emerlita Rickard, Kawika Freitas and Nicky Boskoff. Celebrating 40 years, the company which includes Old Lahaina Luau, Aloha Mixed Plate, Star Noodle and Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop enters its 5th decade with a new generation of leadership
This year marks 40 years of Old Lāhainā Lūʻau and four decades of Nā Hoaloha ‘Ekolu being part of Maui’s hospitality and culinary community.
What began in Lāhainā with founders Michael Moore, Robert Aguiar, and Tim Moore has grown into a family of businesses — Old Lāhainā Lūʻau, Aloha Mixed Plate, Star Noodle, and Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop — and a family of employees, leaders, and community partners who have helped shape our story.
The past 40 years have brought incredible celebrations and extraordinary challenges — from economic hardships, hurricanes, tsunamis, and the COVID-19 pandemic to the devastating Lāhainā fires of 2023. Through it all, our commitment has remained the same: our people, our community, and Maui.
Today, we are proud to announce the next chapter of that story.
Four longtime leaders with deep personal connections to Hawai’i have become Managing Partners of Nā Hoaloha ‘Ekolu: Emer Rickard was raised in Lāhainā and is a graduate of Lahainaluna High School. Judee Mae Aki was born in Makawao and is also a Lahainaluna graduate. Nicky Boskoff was born in Lāhainā and graduated from Kapaʻa High School on Kauaʻi. Kawika Freitas was born on Hawaiʻi Island and is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools
This is more than a leadership transition. It is a commitment to keeping Nā Hoaloha ‘Ekolu locally owned and locally led, with its future connected to the people, culture, and community that have shaped it from the beginning.
Our founders will continue to be actively involved in the company’s development, strategic direction, and long-term vision. The foundation remains strong, the values remain the same, and the commitment to Maui continues to grow.
40 years behind us.
A new chapter ahead.

Live music is at the heart of every evening at Old Lāhainā Lūʻau. 🎶

Our musicians bring the sounds of Hawaiʻi to the stage with ʻukulele, guitar, bass and leo (voice), accompanying the hula and storytelling that unfold throughout the night.

Music has long been a way to share moʻolelo, preserve history and bring people together — and here, it’s an essential part of the experience.

A symbol of aloha, woven one flower at a time. 🌺

At Old Lāhainā Lūʻau, the lei is more than a welcome. It’s one of the first touches of Hawaiian hospitality our guests experience — and the beginning of an evening filled with culture, connection and aloha.
