Mariano "Mike" Alesi along with his wife Bertha brought Lafayette the first Italian Pizza House. After relocating to Lafayette with his four sons, Jerome, Mike, Thomas, and Charles, Mike quickly realized that no one in Lafayette knew about pizza. They decided to open their doors on the old Scott highway, at the intersection of Cameron and Bertrand. In 1962, he moved to the current location, on Joh

nston Street, bringing the famous neon pizza man sign. At the time, Johnston street was considered the country, which worried Mike a bit. But after many years, now they are located at the heart of Lafayette city limits. The doors were open from morning until night, both Mike and Bertha cooking breakfast lunch and dinner. A cajun girl from Milton had to learn the cherished recipes, brought to the United States from Sicily by Mike's mother, Mariana Alesi. Up until 2003, Mike and Bertha continued to make the homemade sauces from her kitchen across the street. Now, their sons Mariano "Mike" Jr. and Charles, uphold the tradition of homemade sauces. Still a family owned restaurant, Mike, Charles, and grandsons Mariano "Mari" and Josh Alesi continue to manage the restaurant and carry on the tradition that Lafayette has grown to love.

2026 MEDIA DAY: It is that time of the year again. Our annual Media day!!! Last year we had 90+ high schools in attendance and published in our magazine ( https://gridironfootballusa.aflip.in/Fall2025 ). This year 3 restaurants have graciously provided a meeting place for our media days so that players and coaches have a comfortable place with more room to hang out before/during/after their interviews.
In addition we would like to invite family, friends, coaches, and supporters of Gridiron Football to come out to these locations to eat on one of these dates. Please mention Gridiron Football when you come and we will receive a contribution from the restaurants to help support our mission to help players get exposure.

We start the week off:
July 13th in Alexandria at Walk-Ons (11am-7pm)
July 15th in Denham Springs at Big Mikes (11am-7pm)
July 17th in Lafayette at Alesi's Pizza House (11am-7pm)

Please come out to these locations for the media day to support us and show your appreciation for these local restaurants that are taking an interest in your young athletes.
