You guys! It’s our month!
🥃It’s National Bourbon Heritage Month! 🥃
Not that we need a month dedicated to bourbon to remind us of how fabulous it is, but, it gives us an excuse to go even more bourbon crazy!
Just a little factual information about bourbon:
Congress actually officially recognized bourbon as a distinctive product of the United States back in the 1960’s.
While all bourbon is whiskey, not all whiskey is bourbon. To be considered an actual bourbon, the whiskey must be made in the United States from a mash bill of at least 51% corn, aged in new charred oak barrels, and bottled at 80 proof or more.
While there are hundreds of brands of bourbon, the oldest continuously operating bourbon distillery in America is the Buffalo Trace Distillery, which has made whiskey on its Frankfort, Kentucky site since 1775.
We go through a ton of Buffalo Trace here at Emporium 109. Our guests enjoy it near, on the rocks, or even in some of our specialty cocktails and old fashioneds.
Our guests also enjoy a great deal of Old Forester 1910 in our signature and best selling 109 Old Fashioned.
Old Forester is actually the first bottled bourbon. The 1910 is named as such because in 1910, a fire on Whiskey Row led to Old Forester being re-barreled into heavily charred barrels.
We have over 120 bourbons and over 300 whiskey/whisky options in total!
Make sure you stop in to try one of your favorites or maybe discover something new!
Don’t forget that we have a specialty Old Fashioned menu as well as a Build Your Own Old Fashioned option that allows you to choose your ingredients! Choose your bourbon/whiskey option, bitters flavor, simple syrup flavor, type of cherry, and whether you would like a candied orange peel or not. We’ve seen some very interesting combinations! We’ve also made some very interesting combinations ourselves over the years. Try your hand at concocting your own Old Fashioned.
We hope to see you soon to see which bourbon(s) is your favorite!
