50 years ago today, September 11, 1976, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl premiered.

The series aired 16 episodes in a single season ending on December 25, 1976 as part of the umbrella series The Krofft Supershow. During the second season, it was dropped, along with Dr. Shrinker. When later syndicated in the package “Krofft Super Stars” and released on home video, the 16 segments, which were each about 12 minutes long, were combined into eight episodes.

The program followed the crime-fighting exploits of female caped crusader Electra Woman (played by Deidre Hall) and her teen sidekick Dyna Girl (Judy Strangis), who worked in their off-time as reporters for Newsmaker Magazine (The full real names of the two were never revealed in any of the installments, although their first names were Lori and Judy, respectively.) In each episode, the duo would don skintight spandex in a bright flash of light called an “Electra-Change,” get into the “ElectraCar,” and use an array of technically advanced gadgets to thwart an eclectic collection of supervillains. They were assisted by Frank Heflin (Norman Alden), a scientist who stayed at their “ElectraBase,” operating its highly sophisticated “CrimeScope” computer, a parody of the BatComputer, while keeping in continual contact with the pair through their “ElectraComs.” Electra Woman and Dyna Girl was basically a female version of Batman and Robin with Dyna Girl uttering phrases like “Electra Wow!” or “Electra Yikes!” and so on.

Little House on the Prairie (Little House: A New Beginning in its ninth and final season) is an American Western historical drama television series about the Ingalls family, who live on a farm on Plum Creek near Walnut Grove, Minnesota, in the 1870s–90s. Charles, Caroline, Laura, Mary, and Carrie Ingalls are respectively portrayed by Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, and twins Lindsay and Sydney Greenbush. The show is loosely based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's best-selling series of Little House books.

In 1972, with the encouragement of his wife and daughter, television producer and former NBC executive Ed Friendly acquired the film and television rights to Wilder's novels from Roger Lea MacBride and engaged Blanche Hanalis to write the teleplay for a two-hour motion picture pilot. Friendly then asked Michael Landon to direct the pilot; Landon agreed on the condition that he may also play Charles Ingalls. The pilot, which first aired on March 30, 1974, was based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's third Little House book, Little House on the Prairie. The rest of the regular series premiered on the NBC network on September 11, 1974, and last aired on May 10, 1982.

During the 1982–83 television season, with the departure of Landon and Grassle, a sequel series, generally considered Season Nine for syndicated packages, was broadcast with the new title Little House: A New Beginning.

How Actor Steve Buscemi Helped Search For Survivors On 9/11

24 years ago, on 9/11/2001, tragedy struck on U.S. soil. The World Trade Center towers became the target of terrorism, and as a result, it claimed thousands of lives. This includes both innocent civilians and first responders. One of those first responders who helped to search for survivors during the aftermath was actor Steve Buscemi.

Buscemi worked 12-hour shifts along with other firefighters that day, searching for anyone who could possibly still be alive underneath all that rubble and debris. Buscemi had taken the FDNY civil service test when he was 18 and would work as an FDNY firefighter in downtown Manhattan in the ’80s. Now, in 2001, he was returning to his old stomping grounds.

Buscemi would later leave the services to pursue acting, but he never strayed away from engaging in New York firefighter causes. At the time, during the efforts of the rescue, he said: “It was a privilege to be able to do it. It was great to connect with the firehouse I used to work with and with some of the guys I worked alongside. And it was enormously helpful for me because while I was working, I didn’t really think about it as much, feel it as much.”

Back in 2013, the Brotherhood of Fire page went on to remind everyone of Buscemi’s efforts and contributions during that time. “Do you recognise this man? Do you know his name? Lots of people know he’s an actor, and that his name is Steve Buscemi. What very few people realise is that he was once one of New York’s Bravest,” the post says of Buscemi.

At 18 years old, Steve Buscemi took the FDNY civil service exam in 1976. By 1980, he had joined the ranks as a firefighter with Engine Company 55 in Manhattan’s Little Italy, one of the busiest firehouses in the city. He served with the department for four years before transitioning to his career in Hollywood as an actor, writer, and director.

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Buscemi quietly returned to his old firehouse. Starting on September 12, he worked 12-hour shifts for several days alongside his fellow firefighters, searching through the wreckage of the World Trade Center for survivors. He avoided media attention, requesting no photographs or interviews, as his sole focus was to assist, not to gain publicity.

“I was only there for like five days, but when I stopped going and tried to just live my life again, it was really, really hard,” Buscemi says about going back to civilian life following the tragic events that took place. “There are times when I talk about 9/11 and I’m right back there,” he adds. “I start to get choked up and I realize, ‘Ah, this is still a big part of me.’”

Looking back on his efforts that day, Buscemi said, “It was a privilege to be able to do it. It was great to connect with the firehouse I used to work with and with some of the guys I worked alongside. And it was enormously helpful for me because while I was working, I didn’t really think about it as much, feel it as much.”

During the 9/11 terror attacks, 343 firefighters gave their lives protecting and rescuing others. Rest in peace to all the lives lost on that tragic day.

After his son John dies, retired widower Gus Witherspoon (Wilford Brimley) invites his daughter-in-law Jessica Witherspoon (Deidre Hall) and her three children to move to Los Angeles and live with him until Jessie gets back on her feet financially.

Despite protests from her children, fifteen-year-old Kris (Shannen Doherty); twelve-year-old David (Chad Allen); and eight-year-old Molly (Keri Houlihan) they, Jessie, and their basset hound Arthur leave Fort Wayne, Indiana, to start a new life in California. As they settle in with Gus, they realize just how difficult he can be to live with. The majority of the plots each week centers on the conflicts which tend to arise when an extended family must live together in the same house. As man of the house, Gus imposes rules on his three grandkids the same way he had raised John (and also John's brother Ben, who is seen in a two part episode); ultimately, however, he learns ways of conveying lessons to the kids without being gruff. Jessie and the kids eventually learn that beneath Gus' stern facade is a wise man, well versed in the ways of the world, who cares about them very much.

Each of the episode's five acts (before the commercial break) ends with a freeze frame shot which then occupies one of several rooms in an abstract rendering of a house figure. As the episode unfolds, more rooms are filled until finally—when the dilemma has been resolved—the final piece is put in place, completing the house.

John Witherspoon (played by Patrick Duffy) is seen in one episode and in the occasional flashback.

Happy 64th Birthday to Kristy McNichol!

Christina Ann McNichol (born September 11, 1962) is an American former actress. Beginning her career as a child actress, she rose to fame in 1976 with her portrayal of teenaged daughter Letitia "Buddy" Lawrence in the TV drama Family for which she won two Emmy Awards. Subsequent roles included Angel in the film Little Darlings, Polly in Only When I Laugh, and Barbara Weston in the TV sitcom Empty Nest. McNichol retired from acting in 2001.

She appeared with her brother Jimmy McNichol in commercials and later, on her own, in guest appearances on such other series as Starsky & Hutch, The Bionic Woman, CHiPs, Love, American Style, and The Love Boat, thanks to family friend Desi Arnaz. Her first stint as a series regular came in the role of Patricia Apple in the short-lived television series Apple's Way (1974).

Max Fleischer ( July 19, 1883 – September 11, 1972) was an American animator and studio owner. Born in Kraków, in Austrian Poland, Fleischer immigrated to the United States where he became a pioneer in the development of the animated cartoon and served as the head of Fleischer Studios, which he co-founded with his younger brother Dave. He brought such comic characters as Koko the Clown, Betty Boop, Popeye, and Superman to the movie screen, and was responsible for several technological innovations, including the Rotoscope, the "Follow the Bouncing Ball" technique pioneered in the Ko-Ko Song Car-Tunes films, and the "Stereoptical Process". Film director Richard Fleischer was his son.

Lee Ann Meriwether (born May 27, 1935) is an American actress, former model, and the winner of the 1955 Miss America pageant. She has appeared in many films and television shows, notably as Betty Jones, the title character's secretary and daughter-in-law in the 1970s crime drama Barnaby Jones starring Buddy Ebsen. The role earned her two Golden Globe Award nominations in 1975 and 1976, and an Emmy Award nomination in 1977. She is also known for her portrayal of Catwoman, replacing Julie Newmar in the made-for-TV film Batman (1966), and for a co-starring role on the science fiction series The Time Tunnel. Meriwether had a recurring role as Ruth Martin on the daytime soap opera All My Children until the end of the series in September 2011.
