’Twas the night before Saturday, and all through the land,
The college football faithful were making their plans.
The rankings were posted, the matchups were set, and a Saturday slate we won’t soon forget.
Six ranked battles were waiting in line, from noon through the evening, it’s football time.
With stadiums roaring and fans dressed in pride,
The biggest games of the season were soon to collide.
In Gainesville, the Rebels and Gators would meet,
Ole Miss and Florida an SEC treat.
In Ann Arbor, the Hawkeyes would come to town,
As Iowa and Michigan battled for the crown.
In Athens, the Sooners would travel to see
The mighty Bulldogs of old Georgia’s team.
Then Oregon and USC under the lights,
Would battle in L.A. on Saturday night.
And down in Baton Rouge, where the Tigers roar,
Texas A&M and LSU would settle the score.
But before all those games could steal the show,
There was one matchup that everyone would know.
For early Saturday, the stage would be bright,
With Neyland Stadium ready for fight.
The Longhorns from Texas would come rolling in, but Tennessee’s Volunteers were ready to begin.
The Vols versus Texasthe matchup of UTs, with orange in the stands and the crowd in the breeze.
The checkerboard waiting, the flags flying high, while Rocky Top echoes beneath the Tennessee sky.
The Longhorns come ranked number one in the land, but Tennessee’s waiting with homefield in hand.
At twelve o’clock sharp, the whole nation will see.
A battle in Knoxville for SEC supremacy.
From Arch Manning’s Longhorns to Tennessee’s crew, there’s nowhere to hide when the game comes to you.
With the Vols at Neyland and Rocky Top loud,
Over a hundred thousand will shake up the crowd.
So raise up the orange and let the horns sound, let the Vols bring that Tennessee thunder around.
Let Neyland Stadium shake from the first play, and let everybody know it’s GAME DAY!
Six ranked matchups will make Saturday shine, but Knoxville is where the spotlight will climb.
From noon until night, football fans will agree.
There’s nowhere like Neyland in Tennessee!
So sleep if you can, but don’t sleep too long, because Saturday morning, the Vols will be strong.
The lights may be waiting, the kickoff is near.
Texas comes to Knoxville.
And Rocky Top is here!!
