Reminder that we do not take dine in reservations, but we’re worth the wait!

I just wanted to personally thank you for choosing us during your visit to the Outer Banks and for the beautiful words you shared in Our State. Reading your piece and seeing our family, our story, and our soft shell sandwich represented in such an authentic way truly meant more than I can put into words.

What made it especially meaningful is that this wasn’t paid for, promoted, or manufactured. We didn’t participate in Soft Shell Week through advertising, and honestly, we’ve stepped away from paying for ads altogether. We’ve always believed that hard work, authenticity, and doing things right still matter. The real ones speak for themselves.

For you to walk in, experience what we do, and choose us simply because you saw value in it that feels different. That feels earned.
As a small family business built around generations of commercial fishing and local roots, your words honored more than just a sandwich. You honored the people behind it the early mornings, the boats, the docks, the work, and the pride that comes with it.

One Last shed: 🦀

They knew him as Harrell Stuart…
But around here, he was Grandaddy.

A commercial fisherman by trade.
A provider by calling.
A man built from quiet strength and steady hands.

Born in the mountains of Asheville but rooted deep in the waters of Currituck. Bells Island wasn’t just where he lived, it’s where a legacy was worked, day in and day out.

Grandaddy wasn’t loud.
He didn’t need to be.

He was soft-spoken, but firm.
And when he spoke you listened.
Because chances were, you wouldn’t hear it again.

This month, you’ll see restaurants all over the Outer Banks promoting Soft Shell Week with menus, specials, and advertisements.

And that’s alright.

But for us, this isn’t a promotion.

This is our bloodline.

There’s no paid ad behind what we do.
No ONE-week spotlight.

Because every single day, we pay the price to harvest our own soft shell crabs.

Early mornings.
Late nights.
Salt, sweat, and weathered hands.

Shed by us.
Handled by us.
Served straight from our waters to your plate.

That’s not marketing.
That’s heritage.

Because to Grandaddy this wasn’t just work.

This was his rhythm.
His purpose.
His pride.

He’d sit outside his home, or in that old pink recliner by the window, watching those shedding tanks like a hawk to keep the blackbirds off and make sure everything was just right.

Because it mattered to him.

And truth be told, it still matters to us.

This photo, his last day at the shedders, hangs in our restaurant today.

Not for decoration, but as a reminder.

Of the man who helped build this.
Of the standard he set.
Of the family he raised.
Of the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all part of a legacy that still lives on through these waters.

And we can almost guarantee he’s up there now, still shedding crabs in heaven while looking down at us thinking we’re not doing it quite right.😉

And we’re okay with that.🫶🏽

Because soft shells aren’t just a dish here
they’re a piece of him.🦀
