Four years ago today.
We miss the place and the people.
Common Ground.. 1310 Draper.. a place where God did wonderful things!
We hope y’all are doing great and sipping on tasty coffee these days.

On this day 3 years ago we were finishing up our music set with Julie Chambers on a Friday night.
It had been a fun night of making drinks, listening to music, and the chatter of friends who’d gathered.

The night came to a close and I felt the need to stay and look the place over to make sure it was ready for the Saturday morning crowd.
So, I locked myself in, and enjoyed doing some deep cleaning. But more than that I prayed.. I prayed for God’s continued blessing over the shop. I prayed for all those who’d entered our place and for those who had yet to come, that they would feel His presence at Common Ground.
I prayed for His purpose to be accomplished there, and for the strength of our volunteers who gave of themselves to make it happen..

When I was finished, I gathered the barista towels for washing, paused at the door, looked around and said to God, “I will never get tired of looking at this place.”
I remembered how 20 years prior, my husband had a dream to make the space a coffee shop.. and there it was, through the efforts of so many, standing as beautiful as any dream could be.. it was interesting how the memories flooded my mind.
I gave Him thanks as I turned and locked the door for the last time.

I look back on that night and I’m grateful that me and God had a moment one last time there together. It was a purposeful, intentional moment.
It was my habit of stopping at the door and soaking up the place before leaving. I’m glad I did.

Three hours later the ministry on 1310 Draper would come to a close as a fire would consume the old hotel.. but the love that took place there all through the years, whether a youth center or a coffee house, has not been erased from our hearts!
I believe God hears prayers, and He prepares our hearts for what’s ahead.
I also believe that His purpose for that space was fulfilled. Many lives were touched there. Faith and obedience happened there. Grit happened there. Great coffee drinks happened there, and wonderful connections with our townspeople.

He doesn’t stop tragedies, He walks us through them, and He reminds us that our purpose to love others doesn’t rest in a building or a business.. it is within us.. seasons change and we choose to continue serving Him regardless of what may come.
To be sure, we still miss the place and the great folks who used to bounce through the door. They were great years.
We hope you’re all doing well, and we hope you’re drinking some fabulous coffee!
You hold a special place in our hearts!

Hi Friends! How's everybody! We hope your summer is going great!!
I've had several people ask if we were going to take over the old Burger King restaurant in the Burg.. The answer is nope!

We have no plans in sight.. Just trying to find some good coffee! 👍 love to all! -LQ
