I’m Kara Tondorf, the owner of The Rivershed. I want to be clear that I’m not closing this restaurant because of the people who work there. The Rivershed team is incredible. Nobody is getting fired and nobody has done anything wrong. I’m speaking as a business owner who cannot be in Killington full time. I have owned and operated restaurants for 12 years…a career I fell into and quickly loved. I created the Rivershed in Massachusetts 12 years ago. The Rivershed was a love child of all my passions; food, music, community, family. When COVID hit I brought my children to VT and opened another Rivershed because it felt right and Killington is such a special place. Life doesn’t always work out the way you plan so I was unable to remain a full-time resident of VT. I have housed musicians, brought talent together, hosted holidays, connected people to one another all for my love of the above forementioned passions. Killington is an amazing place. I have made lifelong friends and I absolutely love the community. I thank all of the amazing Rivershed staff and this incredible community for the support you’ve given. The restaurant would not have been as wonderful without all of you. I promise to keep you posted on the plans for the future. I ask for kindness…not just in this situation but in this whole world that feels at times like it’s falling apart. I know there is a lot negativity in the world right now but there are also a lot of beautiful humans out there that want to love and support each other. Operating with love and kindness is so important to me. I’m so grateful for building such a wonderful place for people to come and make memories. There is not one person I would not welcome back with open arms and an open heart. I plan to have a thank you event for the staff and community on Sunday June 22nd. Details to come.

Hello to our amazing and loyal Rivershed customers! We are sure you have heard the news that the Rivershed is closing…while that is somewhat true we want to clarify that we are only taking a break for the summer. We plan to regroup, restaff and our hope is to open back up in the Fall for a killer 2026 season! Stay tuned and check in for updates!
