El Meson De Pepe’s Restaurant and Bar is family-owned and offers Key West a taste of Cuban island cuisine. Since 1985, Chef Pepe Diaz and his family have served delicious Cuban favorites to locals and visitors alike. We’re dedicated to offering high-quality food and the preservation of Cuban-Conch heritage, which is why many of the dishes are created from family recipes. Our menu includes a wide variety of lunch and dinner options from nachos to soups to seafood. We even have a special children’s menu for the little ones. Everyone can enjoy their meal either inside our lively dining area decorated to the brim with unique artwork or out on the patio surrounded by lights and the sunset. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, we also have a live Latin band every night from 6PM to 10PM to keep the night vibrant. Welcome to Key West life!

🇨🇺 Did you know how deeply Cuban history is woven into Key West?

Key West and Cuba may be separated by roughly 90 miles of water, but their histories have been intertwined for generations.
During the 1800s, thousands of Cuban immigrants came to Key West, bringing their families, traditions and cigar-making skills with them.

By 1876, 29 cigar factories in Key West were producing an astonishing 62 million ci**rs a year. By 1890, Key West had become Florida’s largest and wealthiest city, with more than 100 million ci**rs handmade here annually.
But the connection went far beyond ci**rs. Cuban culture became woven into Key West’s food, music, politics and community, helping shape the island we know today.

✈️ Have you ever looked up while dining at El Mesón de Pepe and wondered about the airplane hanging above you?

It tells the story of Agustín Parlá, a Key West-born aviation pioneer whose parents were Cuban exiles.

On May 19, 1913, just ten years after the Wright brothers’ historic first flight, Parlá took off from Key West and flew across the Florida Straits to Cuba, reaching the area near Mariel.
Another aviator, Domingo Rosillo, had completed the crossing just two days earlier, but Parlá’s daring journey became an important chapter in early Cuban aviation history.

More than a century later, his story remains part of the extraordinary connection between Key West and Cuba, and a tribute to that history still hangs above our guests today. 🇨🇺✈️🌴

It’s Hispanic Heritage Month! Take a stroll inside El Mesón De Pepe for a little Cuban-American History!

🎨 See incredible artwork by the one and only Mario Sánchez, the artist who captured old Key West.

Born in Key West in 1908 to Cuban parents, Mario Sánchez grew up in the neighborhood of Gato Village, surrounded by the people, places and traditions of the Cuban community that helped shape the island.

Rather than painting grand monuments, Sánchez preserved everyday Key West life: cigar makers, street vendors, musicians, neighbors and colorful scenes from the island he remembered.

His distinctive painted woodcarvings became an extraordinary visual record of Key West’s Cuban-American heritage, earning him recognition as one of Florida’s most important folk artists.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating people like Mario Sánchez whose work helped preserve the stories and culture of Cayo Hueso for generations to come. 🇨🇺🌴
