Today, we are sharing an important next step in our mission: Launching a capital campaign for a permanent, 4,500-square-foot indoor Education Center at Wisconsin's 9/11 Memorial.
This new space will allow us to expand our educational programming year-round and create a place where students, families, educators, veterans, first responders and visitors from across Wisconsin and the Midwest can learn, reflect and remember.
Twenty-five years later, nearly every student who visits our Memorial was born after September 11. Our responsibility is not only to preserve the history of that day, but to help future generations understand the lives that were lost, the courage of those who responded and the extraordinary spirit of service that followed.
As our Board President Dr. Mark Bazata shared, “Keeping that promise now means teaching people who weren't there.” This Education Center represents the next step in carrying the responsibility of remembrance and service forward.
Tomorrow, we will gather as a community for our 25th Annual Remembrance Ceremony at 1:00 PM. As we mark 25 years since September 11, we invite you to join us in honoring the lives lost, the courage and sacrifice of those who responded, and the families who continue to carry their memories.
We remember. We honor. We carry their stories forward.
