Why do the Taylors love Alaska?

Because Alaska has a way of bringing generations together.

A grandmother sharing an adventure.

Why do the Taylors love Alaska?

Because one day, the places that shaped us begin shaping our children.

The rivers become places to explore.

The forests become places to wander.

The stories become family traditions.

One of the greatest gifts of living in Alaska is watching a new generation discover the same wonder we felt growing up here.

And seeing it through their eyes somehow makes it feel brand new again.

One of the unexpected things about Ketchikan is how small the world can feel from a place that's so far away.

This summer, Timber & Tide welcomed a special visitor when Melanie stopped by while cruising through Alaska to see her niece and nephew, Madison and Porter, who are spending the season working with us.

The twins are originally from Las Vegas and recently traded desert heat for Southeast Alaska's rainforests, fishing boats, and waterfront views. Like many young adults, they're discovering what it's like to step outside their comfort zone, meet new people, and experience a completely different way of life.

What has surprised them most isn't how different Alaska feels—it's how connected it is.

In just a few short weeks, they've met guests from all over the world, including several from the Las Vegas area. They've already welcomed more than one family member through our doors, proving that even in a small coastal town tucked into Alaska's Inside Passage, home has a funny way of finding you.

Every day at Timber & Tide, they meet people from places they've only read about, hear stories from travelers crossing oceans and continents, and discover that Ketchikan isn't just a destination—it's a crossroads.

For Madison and Porter, this summer is about more than serving tacos and fish and chips. It's about adventure, family, new friendships, and learning that sometimes the most remote places can make the world feel a little smaller.

And every now and then, that world brings your aunt all the way to Alaska just to say hello, but you don't have to be their Aunt to stop in and say hello.
