Attention all loyal guests and followers…
***longer message than usual, please read***
Since 2011 (16 consecutive seasons) we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing authentic, gourmet ice made by us for YOUR enjoyment. Mostly as a result of YOUR LOYALTY I think we’ve achieved that. In addition to being a small business owner in I’ve also been a public school teacher in North Carolina since 2004. My wife and I have raised 4 children the past 20+ years mostly in the Sedge Garden community of W-S in the same house. Fellow Forsyth county residents who have lived here and sent our children to WSFCS schools have seen the dual crises of financial mismanagement and school violence the past several, recent years. This has broken my heart. I previously taught at both Atkins & Carver high schools where, in so many ways, those 2 experiences were extremely rewarding. However, I ultimately left both schools—not because of students who I adored working with—due to ineffective school and district leadership.
Last April all of those “chickens came home to roost” with the revelation of $46 million of debt preceded by a tragic incident where a student was stabbed to death at one of our high schools (the second school homicide in 5 years). Last December I filed my candidacy to run for a school board seat to help “right the ship” by bringing in all of my teaching and local business experiences to bear. I have not previously mentioned this on this page because I prefer to not mix business with politics and elected government service.
I am mentioning this TODAY because we will be closing JUST FOR THE SEASON on September 30th so I can focus on getting the message out to voters that WE MUST SAVE OUR WSFCS SCHOOL SYSTEM. I need as many votes as possible to become an agent of improvement who will respect tax dollars, protect students with every ounce of my devotion and 100% support school staff.
I would be honored to have YOUR VOTE. I’m Michael Quiñones and my FB campaign page is Elect Michael Quiñones for WSFCS BOE.
In the interest of full transparency I am committed to everything stated above but I will also be speaking what I believe is true and what I believe needs to be said during this time of need in our school system. So you’ll undoubtedly see a different “side of me” that you haven’t seen at our store or mobile trailer in the past. I apologize in advance if the way I communicate during the next several months raises an eyebrow. My only goal is to stay focused helping to represent our community’s students, families and educators in the best way possible.
I’m running as an AT LARGE CANDIDATE so every eligible Forsyth County voter, no matter where you live, can vote for me. I hope I can gain your confidence and vote no matter which political party you’re affiliated with or if you’re an independent. For me this is not political it’s critical that we improve our schools.
From now until September 30th of this season I look forward to slingin’ ice to every visitor who stops by the window. Again, we appreciate YOUR SUPPORT.
Best wishes,
Mike Quiñones
