Murphy's Food King

Murphy's Food King We are a full-service grocery store located in Kentland. We look forward to serving you! He re-named the store Murphy’s Food King.

In 1944 Charles and Dorothea Murphy opened Murphy’s IGA Super Store on Graham Street in Kentland. The couple ran the store up until June 10, 1947 when a fire destroyed the building. In late September Murphy’s relocated in the former Nash dealer building on Graham street and named the store Murphy’s Super Market. Sometime in 1960 Charles and Dorothea retired from the business and handed the responsibility to their son David Murphy. Dave made the decision to move the super market to the empty Ford dealership on Dunlap street where it currently sits today. Today Murphy’s Food King is in it’s third generation of family service. When David passed away in 2006 the business was taken over by his daughter Colleen Clifton and Murphy’s Food King is currently operated by Charles and Dorothea’s grandchildren, Colleen Clifton and Shannon Hutsell.

AN IMPORTANT UPDATE:

No Pinwheels Today, Friday September 25!

We will be delaying Pinwheels until Saturday September 26! A couple of surprise orders have changed how we can get things done, so in order to get everything finished for Our Customers, we need to push back a day!

Have no fear though, there's still some fantastic options for Dinner tonight: Head out to the Fairgrounds to enjoy The Fish Fry at the 4-H Building, or Dinner from one of the Food Vendors!

We'll update you tomorrow when the Pinwheels hit the case,

AN IMPORTANT REMINDER:

Pun'Kin Palooza is here!

Don't forget, if you want to skip cooking Dinner tonight, head out to the Newton County Fairgrounds to partake in the Fish Fry on the First Night of Pun'kin Palooza!

The events kick off at 5PM- The Vendors (both Food and Craft), Amusements, BINGO!, and Face Painting (located at Ms. Piggy's).

At 6PM- The Fish Fry Opens (at the 4-H Building), the First Stone Age Show (just North of the Green Building) of the evening starts, and Hayrides!

At 7PM- Round 2 of the Stone Age Show, and Get Super Spooked at the Haunted House!

At 8PM- See the VanVleet Brothers at the Free Stage and Round 3 of the Stone Age Show starts!

SATURDAY MORNING September 26-

7:30AM- Start the Morning off with Breakfast with Kentland Rotary at the 4-H Building
ALSO- The SN FFA 5K Run/Walk Registration Opens
8AM- SN FFA 5k Run/Walk Starts
10 AM- The Following Events Open:
The Craft Show/ Vendors Open at the Commercial Building

Harness Racing at the Grandstand
11AM- Illiana RC Pull at the Midway

It's almost time for Pun'kin Palooza! There's plenty of Events and Fantastic Food Options all weekend long at the Newton County Fairgrounds!

Help kickoff Fall by enjoying a variety of things from Hayrides and Good Music, Stopping by the Vendors in the Commercial Building or grabbing a treat from Your Favorite Food Vendor, showing off Your Ride at the Car Show or your skills at the BBQ Cookoff, and let Us not forget, BINGO ALL WEEKEND!

It all starts on Friday September 25 at 5PM at the Newton County Fairgrounds, and guess what- the Handy Dandy App on your phone that was introduced at this year's Fair- also works for this event! You can see what is going on and when it's happening in the NC Fair App!

Finally, there is no need to worry about making dinner Friday Night, if the Food Vendors don't fill you up with their offerings (or if you plan ahead and save some room) stop by the Fish Fry at the 4-H Building!

An Important Reminder:

We know next weekend is another busy one (but the good kind of busy, with fun events, good food, and enjoying the company of friends, not the bad kind where you get stuck at work or have to sit in traffic on 65 FOR HOURS) but take some time to relax and enjoy fishing as well as a Picnic!

Head to Fowler on September 26 from 5-7:30PM to partake in a Free Will Donation Picnic (that benefits Glimmers of Hope) and enjoy Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chips and Dessert for Dinner. After that from 5:30-7:30PM, partake in the Fishing Tournament and stick around to watch the Winners Announced at 8PM! If Fishing isn't your thing, just kick back, relax, and enjoy Summer before Fall gets here!
