This week’s special is out!! Holden’s Cinnabutter Cakes! 2 pancake sandwiches with cinnamon butter, Duma’s sausage patties, and an over hard egg with American cheese! Served with hashbrowns!! I just heard the news.
That Charlie Thomas of Ray’s Place has passed. Charlie was an amazing person and did so much for the community. Over the years, he helped me in little ways that separated Mikes Place from other places.
In fact, I worked on the first Mikes Place menu in 1987 at his bar in downtown. Akron called Mr. Bilbo’s. That bar was truly hometown comfortable local hang out where the pitchers of dark and tans were simply amazing. In fact that Mr. Bill bow booth at Mikes Place has some of the pictures from the original Mr. Bilbo‘s in Akron once hung. Maybe that’s where a some of the humor of the Mikes Place menu came from. Let’s all take a moment to reflect on all Charlie did for the Kent community. Remember about all the people that he talked to and made fell at home and comfortable in his amazing restaurant and bar! Charlie made Rays what it is today! Thank you Charlie for your friendship over the years. I’m sure now he’ll probably be starting some kind of unique bar somewhere down around the Keys in heaven!!
