Hey guys — hey, friends.
I just want to tell you what’s going on with our family this weekend.
My dad, Pop, is in his very last days now. Some of you may know him. Maybe you’ve seen him sitting at the end of the counter. He would meet me for opening in our first days, so I wouldn’t have to put the sign out in the dark or be alone. Maybe I’ve told you about the orange cinnamon twists being his favorite — the ones I used to call the Old Man Donut . And if you’ve ever gotten a filled donut with the little hole poked into the side instead of the bottom… there’s a pretty good chance Pop was helping us that day.
He was part of the original Thunderstruck dream. The plan was always that he’d be here with us, helping Ben make dough overnight. It took us nearly two years to finally get these doors open, and during that time we found out he was sick.
And now we’re here.
The boys and I are spending these last moments with him, so you probably won’t see us much at the shop this weekend. Ben is going to try to hold things down himself as much as he can, but I may need him too. So our hours could change or we may have to close unexpectedly. We’ll always let you know here.
We’re pausing new preorders for the weekend, but the orders already placed are being taken care of.
I’m not usually someone who shares much of my personal life publicly. But this little shop is so personal, and after standing across the counter from so many of you week after week, somehow you’ve become our friends too.
Thank you, always, for the kindness you’ve shown our family and this dream. 💗
