It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and longtime employee, Gail.

Gail wasn’t just part of the diner—she was one of the people who carried its history.

For many of our longtime customers, Gail wasn’t just a waitress—they had known her for decades. Some had been coming to the diner since her mother worked here. It was always special listening to Gail and those customers reminisce about the old days, sharing stories about her mom, the diner, and all the people who had come and gone through the years. She wasn’t reading the history of this place—she lived it.

When we first bought the diner, Gail pulled us aside and said, “Just so you know, I’m thinking about retiring soon.” Fourteen years later, she was still here, still doing what she did best. She was loyal, dependable, and cared deeply about this place and the people in it.

Gail was funny, outspoken, and never afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind. She held herself to a high standard and expected the same from everyone around her. She took pride in her work, showed up on time, and could always be counted on.

Outside of work, Gail loved her Jets football, horse racing, bingo, and the occasional trip to the slots. Every football season, we’d spend Sundays watching the games and Mondays talking about everything that happened. Those conversations became one of the many things I looked forward to.

But what I’ll miss most are the talks we had after long days and busy nights. We talked about life, family, challenges, and all the little adventures and shenanigans she somehow always found herself in. She had a way of making any story entertaining and any conversation memorable.

Over the years, Gail became more than an employee. She became family.

Her presence, her stories, her laugh, and the relationships she built with generations of customers helped make this diner what it is today. She leaves behind a place that is better because she was part of it, and memories that will stay with all of us for years to come.

We will miss her dearly and will never forget her. ❤️
