KPD anticipates that all parking areas in the Lighthouse District will reach maximum capacity between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Once this happens, police block off multiple access points. If you plan to park at the Boardwalk garage or the inner Kipp Avenue lots, arrive before 3:00 PM. (Note: Boardwalk parking transitions to a $20 cashless flat rate, requiring you to pay via a mobile QR code).
The Best Lots for a Quick Escape
When the fireworks end at 9:50 PM, the mass exodus begins, and your parking spot dictates your exit route:
Texas Avenue Lots: Parking around Texas Ave is heavily favored by locals. During the egress, KPD pulses traffic out from here directly onto the SH 146 elevated roadway, getting you out of the immediate Boardwalk footprint much faster.
Inner Boardwalk Lots: If you park deep in the Boardwalk area, expect to be routed down Bradford Avenue or Kipp Avenue and funneled out via 6th or 7th Street to the highway.
The Big Box Lots: Willing to sacrifice being right underneath the fireworks to guarantee zero gridlock? The parking lots at Target and Walmart along FM 518 offer distant views of the sky with immediate, unobstructed road access.

For locals heading back westward to subdivisions like Kemah Crossing, utilizing a street-legal golf cart bypasses much of the highway bottleneck.
