A little storytime about a busy weekend!
A couple weeks ago a big North Texas storm hit our area and knocked out the electricity substation for our little pocket of Fort Worth. What we thought would be a short power outage turned into a 26 hour outage….on a weekend I had a big wedding cake and several sheet cakes to prepare and deliver, baby shower cupcakes, and a birthday cake.
This was on Wednesday evening and the wedding was Friday evening. Wednesday evening was supposed to be a big baking night…I still had to make 9 round 6,10, and 14” tiered cake layers, six sheet cake layers, 4 dozen cupcakes, three kinds of fillings, and a ton of buttercream. And no working mixers or oven.
Found an oven to use and proceeded to bake all day amid rolling power outages occurring every 15 ish minutes that kept turning the oven off for 30 second intervals. Then once our power came back on I got set back up and worked all day Friday scrambling to put everything together, frosted, and stacked. Finished right before delivery and got the cake set up and flowers added about 10 min before the reception started! Then got right back to work and finished the cupcakes and then the birthday cake the next day.
