We’ve been quiet on here since we closed the doors in November, because we were still holding on to hope that we would find a way to reopen, but it didn’t work out that way. We’re now out of the space, and we need to sell off some remaining items. Check out FB Marketplace and you’ll see several listings - some pots and pans, dining room chairs, an ice cream machine, and some memorabilia if you’d like to pick up something to remember us by! We’ll keep this account live so stay tuned for updates on our new projects and just to stay in touch with the community. Thank you KC for ten years of beautiful food for the people - it’s been an honor! ❤️

We were honored to be included in a article yesterday that mourns the loss of some of the unique and important restaurants from around the country that have closed this year. It’s not what we would ever have wanted to be in the Times for, but we are proud to be in such great company. Thanks for the kind words. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/27/us/covid-restaurants-diners-closed.html

Today would (should) have been our 10th Anniversary. We’re reflecting on a lot of great memories, but mostly missing our fam, and the friends, regulars, farmers, and everybody else who was part of our community for the last decade. ❤️🍝🥂

Thanks to the huge outpouring of support we’ve been shown since announcing that we have to shutter at the end of this month, reservations have suddenly gotten really hard to come by. To help get more of our friends and neighbors in to see us again we decided to add an additional service this week and open up for dinner tonite! Check Tock for reservations and stay tuned here for more announcements about events next week. Thank you to everyone reaching out as we navigate this - we love you! We’ll be wearing our masks and staying socially distanced from you, but we’ve never felt closer to our community ❤️

There will be long, heartfelt posts and more information, in the next couple weeks, but for now we're just going to share some news. After many pivots, a lot of hard work and contemplation, we have decided that it no longer makes financial sense to operate under the conditions we're all living through while facing the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a gut-wrenching and difficult decision, but we need to announce that The Rieger will go dark on November 1st. It has been a great privilege and a beautiful and enriching opportunity to be a part of the Kansas City culinary scene for nearly a decade and to get to cook for, serve and know so many of you. We also feel grateful that we were able to serve over 85,000 meals as the Crossroads Community Kitchen during the start of the pandemic and that is an experience our team will remember for the rest of our lives.

Pending talks with our landlord and the potential of more federal relief and/or a widely distributed vaccine, we are holding on to hope of being able to relaunch at a future date. But for now, it seems like time to take a break. We hope to see new and old faces between now and October 31st. Thank you, Kansas City, for all the support and love over the years. We love you back.
