We will be at the KC Farm School at Gibbs Road farm stop on Wednesday and Mission KS Farmers Market on Thursday.

It looks like tomatoes are popping off, and if you haven't had a BLT on our Pullman loaf, you are missing out.

If you *think* jalapenos are less spicy than they used to be, you aren't crazy.

Big salsa companies had approved recipes for canning, but wanted something less spicy. So they asked some colleges to help breed some new, less spicy jalapenos. A college in Texas made it happen, and now a jalapeno from a grocery store seems half a step beyond a bell pepper.

When it's not in season, we do use grocery store jalapenos in our cornbread, but we wait until the season hits to throw them onto our focaccias, so they lean spicy, we hit it with a little bit of minced garlic.

We tend to run this as long as the peppers keep hitting because it's a crowd favorite, so check it out.

This week we will be back at the spots.

KC Farm School at Gibbs Road has "Bean Fest" this week, which means more vendors than their standard Farm Stops, and they have KC Young Audience coming through with some art activities for the kids(and they offered to let me do the activities last time, so their definition of kids is just people who like to have fun!)

At Mission KS Farmers Market this week it's Jenny from K. M. wanting to invite everyone to celebrate her birthday, she brings a foam machine and kids run through it and get foamy and laugh. So if you don't normally keep towels in your car for impromptu swim trips over the summer, throw one in there so your kids don't foam up your backseat.

We have an eye on the weather, so may shrink our production down on things this week if the rain looks likely. Remember that if you have some favorites you want me to set aside from our regular lineup, just pop into our messages the day of events and I'll tuck them away for you.

Jalapeno garlic focaccia is back this week, and I'm guessing from the tomatoes on our home garden plants we can expect that season is about to come on strong. So swing through, support your local farmers, makers and producers, and bring a friend or make a new one.

Have you tried our Chocolate Babka rolls?

Our sweet roll dough, cocoa powder, butter, sugar, chocolate chips. It has become a crowd favorite for those in the know. You are gonna want some napkins.

Load up on your market goods for your celebratory cookout. Stop in for all the great produce at KC Farm School at Gibbs Road on Wednesday(their radishes are really hitting for me this week) and take a look at what other vendors might be stopping in.

Mission KS Farmers Market is trading last week's rain cancelation for this week's heat advisory, but they have lots of plans to help keep you and your friends cool while you drink some beer, listen to music, and enjoy some grub from the food trucks lined up this week while Mission marks it's 75th anniversary since it's founding.

Mission KS Farmers Market is cancelled for the evening due to the storms, but if you all didn't know, we at Purple Onion strive to be the freshest bread in town, so we had a lot of bread already mixed, proofed and baked.

So if you still want your bread fix, send us a DM or a comment, we have prices on the next slide. I plan on leaving for deliveries at around 6:00, and intend to go grab a few suds and watch the match recreationally in downtown Mission if you would rather just recognize and and ask "yo.... You got any bread?"

Come get your bread this week, at the usual spots!

KC Farm School at Gibbs Road Wednesday, swing by for a quick stop and fill up on your bread, early summer produce from the farm school, and go across the street to say hello to their chickens!

Mission KS Farmers Market Thursday, check out Joshua Henry to get his first Summer harvest, put it on our challah which is using the last of his spring harvest. Its match day at the market, so hang out and crush some beers in the park from Rockcreek Brewing Company, load up on barbecue from K. M., and enjoy whatever might be playing while listening to the jams they will be playing.

We are transitioning seasons and harvests, so this might be the end of garlic scape focaccia.... But that means we are closer to the fan favorite pepper and garlic focaccia as those start popping off soon.

This is the bread your great great great grandma was making while Dad was tending the fields. Why gold prospectors in Alaska slept with their sourdough starter under the covers. Milled and sifted to keep some bran in it, for flavor and because, sometimes, all they might eat is bread and it needed more nutrition. We buy the wheat from our miller, Fyler Farms, who started milling on their farmstead to be connected to their father's farm in the Kansas heartland.

Swing by Mission KS Farmers Market tonight in Broadmoor Park for bread, veggies, tunes and suds from Rockcreek Brewing Company. 4:30 to 8:00.
