While fossil hunting my favorite Florida creek in Manatee County I saw something sticking out of the bank (See first picture). When I first saw it I thought, "I know what it looks like but no, it can't be." So I took a couple steps closer to it and thought, "No, it is a palm root pretending to be what it looks like." (See second picture)
Then I took a couple steps closer to it, pulled out my knife, and tapped my knife on it. The resulting pinging sound brought a big smile to my face. It was what I thought it could not be. I pulled from the bank and my smile grew. It was a three quarters full Columbian mammoth tooth. (See third picture) It was a good day for a hunt!
Happy hunting my friends
