Summer isn't over!

I don't know why we get so excited about the end of summer and jumping the gun to pumpkin spice late season when we wait half the year for the glory that is Michigan summer. We crave it, it's so brief, there's no reason to try ending it early!

So instead of hawking PSLs, we're hawking all these amazing picnic supplies that you can get right here from our bakery! We've got handcrafted jams, ludicrously local honey, Michigan tinned fish, delicious spreads, and of course fresh baked breads to eat them all with.

Stop by, build your picnic basket then hit the beach while you still can! We've got months of cold and gray ahead of us, take advantage of summer while it's still here!

BLTshirts are here just in time for BLTeason!!

Look, we don't mess around when it comes to BLTs and we don't think you should either! The perfect BLT requires a perfect tomato, but the perfect Sarkozy BLT starts with our oatmeal bread! So here's a shirt with some handy notes for you in case things get too complicated.

Shirts are printed on quality AS Colour heavy weight 100% cotton tees. They've got a pleasant weight to them, are built to last, and extremely comfortable.

Shout out to SMLXL Merch for helping us through this process and to Ceero Studio for the impeccable design. A lot of thought and care went into these and we're thrilled with the result!

BLTeason is officially upon us!

You all have been wonderfully patient with us and yes it feels late in the year, but a truly delicious tomato takes time. They are paradoxically ephemeral. And they are perfectly imperfect.

But the wait is rewarded with the only tomato that is really worth having a BLT for. These tomatoes come from our farmers market neighbors at Silverbeet Farm and our friend Pat of Kirklin Farms. They are juicy, flavorful, and (for the time being) numerous!

This means we'll be serving up the perfect BLT for lunch at the bakery. Every day of the week (yes even Sundays!) from 11am to 3pm. Toasted freshly baked oatmeal bread to sop up tomato juices, generous smear of mayo to counteract the acidity, several slices of THIN shatrery bacon that doesn't all pull out on your first bite, and local hydroponic lettuce grown just a few blocks from the bakery in downtown Kalamazoo at ValleyHUB KVCC.

Happy BLTeason!

There's been a little bit of miscommunication, we do not sell sourdough starter... We give it away!

We've always been happy to pass along our 40+ year old starter to people who are interested in giving sourdough a try at home but it really picked up during the pandemic. It's fantastic that people are showing such an interest and passion in what we do at the bakery that they want to give it a try at home! And we want to encourage that any way we can.

Establishing a starter was the biggest hurdle I had in my sourdough journey, and it wasn't until a friend (shout-out Aubrey!) gave me a starter that she got from another friend, stretching all the way to a baker in Alaska that I was able to have a consistent, thriving sourdough starter.

So if you'd like to be a parent of a Sarkozy sourdough starter, just bring a container by the bakery and we'll give you some for free. And if you're insistent on parting with your money, we've got these nifty little bumper stickers you can buy.

Sunday at the bakery means brunch!

We got away from ourselves with today's specials. French toast is topped with Fruit Haven Orchard (thanks Bob!) peaches and raspberries, then finished off with whipped cream and a rosemary oat crumble.

We're also still serving up the stellar elote croissant and since it's Sunday you can put an egg on it! This might be the best Sarkozy Nest we've ever had.

Brunch rotates every Sunday so hurry down!

Good morning Kalamazoo, I have NO idea if it's a beautiful day for a farmers market or not!

It's absolutely gorgeous right now but it was supposed to rain. But it might storm later? Idk.

What I do know is that most of our baked goods take 3 days or more to make so there was no stopping the bread train this morning. The croissant have left the station! The cookies are running on time!

Basically, we've baked a ton of bread, pastries, and other goodies for y'all and they're going to be at the Kzoo Farm Market rain or shine. And currently it looks like shine!

Just check out this gorgeous whole wheat sesame sourdough. These loaves come out of the oven every Saturday morning and we rush them to the farmers market so you can have the freshest bread possible!

Happy farmers market day!

Keeping corn season going with a new variation of polenta cake!

Polenta and almond meal make for a delicate crumb cake that still has plenty of texture. If you like corn bread, you're going to love polenta cake.

Give this lime and coconut polenta cake a home. Share it with a friend! Keep it all to yourself! Or have a piece with a cortado at the bakery. The options are - well, not endless. Very quantifiable!

Need a good Monday lunch spot?

Stop by the bakery for a bowl of miso corn soup, topped with the perfect chili crisp. What's that, we even carry Kari kari at the bakery?

All soups are made in house, from scratch, and this one even uses local corn and onions picked up from Crisp Country Acres at the Kzoo Farm Market

Elote croissant, be still my heart!

For the past few years we've taken a swing at a corn croissant but this savory Mexican street corn version is the best yet! Technically more of an esquites croissant, used fresh, local, Michigan corn, smokey spices, bright lime juice, cheese, and a fresh cilantro crema, topped with cilantro and pickled red onion.

The result is a flakey delicious combination of classic French pastry and traditional Mexican cuisine that we'll be baking as long as we can get our hands on good corn!

Here comes another great farmers market weekend!

We're nearly at the peak of Michigan produce and all the incredible things farmers are pulling out of the ground for us. Check out our haul from last week from the Kzoo Farm Market:

We picked up peaches from J&S Farm, blackberries (and even more peaches) from Fruit Haven Orchards LLC, basil from our neighbors Silverbeet Farm, corn from Crisp Country Acres, heirloom tomatoes from Bankson Lake Farm, LLC. and Tiny Giant Farm (shout-out Tomato Town), and we were even gifted some tamales from LaGuatemalteca.

With all this fresh, local produce we were able to make and/or test out a bunch of stuff at the bakery this week! Peach and blackberry pie, miso corn soup, elote croissant, peach brown sugar lattes, caprese croissant, and BLTs, just to name a few (er, several).

We are constantly grateful for the agricultural landscape of South West Michigan. This is a growing region that is second only to California in variety. Our farmers are one of the most important resources we can both benefit from and support. Do your part this weekend by stopping by the Kalamazoo Farmers Market on Saturday or the Portage Farmers Market on Sunday! Or both!

And yes, BLTs are coming. Not ready yet! But soon.
