Just a note to let our customers know about a change to parking in our plaza, starting Sept 1. Ali'i Sunset Plaza is going to start charging for parking, but happily, it isn't going to cost our customers anything. Better, you won't have to use your cell phone to register if you don't want to either. You'll receive 90 minutes of free parking when we enter your license plate number into the parking system's tablet we'll have in the restaurant. It's essentially validated parking, but without a physical ticket to lose. You'll have 15 minutes of grace time to get it registered, which should be plenty. If you're just popping in to pick up a to-go order, you won't even need to do that! (And as a reminder, whenever you come in to pick up an order, please just go straight to the counter. There's no need to stand in line.)
If you're a Hawaii resident and 90 minutes is insufficient, an additional 90 minutes is available, but you'll have to use the Parklinq app. Since 99.999% of our customers are with us for less than 30 minutes, this should be a non-issue.
The bright side of this is that it's likely going to ensure that when you come down to eat at one of the restaurants in our plaza, parking will much more likely to be available, and it will still cost nothing. Our currently free lot has been overwhelmed by Coconut Grove patrons seeking free parking, which has been limiting the availability of parking for OUR customers. Parking should be more available now here than other popular plazas in Kona.
Like every other merchant in Kona, we'd vastly prefer not to have any kind of paid parking and the hassles that come with it, but it's out of our hands. Please don't hate on ANY merchant in Kona town in properties that are charging for parking. It's the landlords that are imposing these charges (and keeping ALL the profits,) not the merchants.
