A COUNTY BREWING: THE GROWTH OF COFFEE IN ATASCOSA COUNTY
When 7 Brew Coffee opens in Pleasanton tomorrow, September 14th, it will add another option to a coffee landscape that has changed significantly in just a few years.
At the beginning of 2020, Atascosa County had few dedicated specialty coffee spaces. Today, residents can choose from locally owned gathering places, early morning donut and espresso counters, a cold brew specialist, broader specialty beverage shops and national drive through brands.
That variety tells an economic development story: local entrepreneurs built demand, customers supported it and continued investment followed.
Each business brings something different to the table and to the cup:
βοΈ Sunshine House Coffee in Jourdanton is rooted in the legacy of Madison and Tanner McCleary and a mission to spread kindness. Along with specialty drinks and food, it offers a place for the community to gather.
β Pleasant Perk Coffee House in Pleasanton brings the familiar sit down coffeehouse experience, with signature drinks, breakfast, baked goods, catering and room to meet or stay awhile.
π© Donut And Espresso Coffee in Poteet and Donut And Espresso Coffee 2 in Jourdanton pair early hours with fresh donuts, coffee and espresso, serving the everyday routines that keep a community moving.
π Lucky Clover Coffee Shop in Lytle has been serving the community since 2021. This local, woman owned shop offers organic coffee, indoor seating and call in pickup, creating another welcoming place for residents to sit, connect or grab a cup on the go.
π§ Stout's Coffee in Lytle has built its identity around craft coffee and cold brew, with energy drinks, refreshers and a Main Street location convenient to local residents and IH 35 travelers.
π Strawberry City Social in Poteet represents another part of the countyβs expanding beverage market. Coffee is a smaller portion of its menu, alongside loaded teas, energy drinks and other specialty beverages, with local retail and community activities adding to the experience.
β Starbucks brought a nationally familiar coffee option to Pleasanton, offering the convenience, customization and digital tools many customers already know.
β‘ 7 Brew now joins that landscape with a fast drive through model, a highly customizable menu and a newly constructed Pleasanton location. State records list the project as an estimated $1 million in private investment, and its opening brings new jobs and another vote of confidence in the countyβs consumer market.
Economic development is not only about welcoming what is new. It is also about recognizing, supporting and continuing to spend with the businesses that were already here. These are businesses that took a chance, created gathering places, served early mornings and helped build the market we have today.
There is no single βbestβ coffee stop because they are not all trying to be the same thing. That is the strength of a growing local economy: more choices, more entrepreneurs, more investment and more reasons to keep dollars circulating close to home.
This month, try a shop you havenβt visited before and tell us in the comments what makes your regular Atascosa County coffee stop special.
Atascosa Means Business.
