Today Coney Island is taking a quiet day to rest — something rare for a place that’s been part of this city since 1916! That’s 110 years of memories, traditions, and generations walking through our doors.
When you’ve been around this long, Labor Day becomes a moment to look back.
Back to the days when coal miners grabbed lunch before their shift…
Back to kids spinning on the counter stools while their parents told them to “sit still”…
Back to chili drifting out onto the sidewalk on cold mornings…
Back to regulars whose orders we knew before they even sat down.
Grandparents, parents, kids, and now their kids — all part of the same story.
Through floods, rumors, challenges, and every “I heard they might shut down someday,” Johnstown kept showing up.
That’s why we’re still here.
Because this city never let us fade.
So while we’re closed today, we’re thinking about all those years, all those faces, all those moments that built Coney into something more than a restaurant.
We’ll be back Tuesday — continuing a tradition that’s lasted more than a century.
