If you remember the old diner, then you probably recognize this table. It was tucked in the back next to the cigarette machine and the closet-sized bathrooms. It was one of the only tables amongst the booths and stools of that little trailer.

Most patrons passed it by. It was often the forgotten table that usually only seated employees on their cigarette breaks or locals waiting for the bus.

It was one of the only tables Charlene brought over from the old diner to the new location.

It maintained its reputation as a misfit table. Initially, it was placed right under the window in the front, which earned it the name “Window Table,” or “WT” as written on guest checks. After a few years of moving furniture around, it ended up against the wall right next to the bathrooms—still known as “WT,” but now officially acknowledged as “Wall Table.”

Despite its usual vacancy, there are a few customers who consistently choose to dine at this ancient square. Some regulars would even consider it “Jimmy’s Table.” Jim is a regular who frequents the diner each morning and perches himself at this table, dutifully watching everyone who walks in.

When a couple sits here, we refer to it as “The Sweetheart Table” in an attempt to soften the discomfort of sitting next to the bathrooms. Sometimes we even share the legacy of the table to make people feel special despite the fact that they are sitting in the notoriously worst seat in the house.

Pictures of our family and the rich history of the diner hang prominently above it, and oftentimes we joke and tell people that this table is so old there is gum from Marilyn Monroe underneath it.

Wall Table may be small and crowded—especially if you order the Hungryman—but it is charming and quaint. It embodies the unique character of the diner: an artifact of its past and a keeper of its legacy ✨
