Baby girls are getting big so we finally got them an upgraded run today!

Also, in other news…the “stolen chicken”(as many have dubbed her) is a rooster!😳 He didn’t have tail feathers when he was found/stolen. So we couldn’t tell until the other morning when he decided to cock-a-doodle-doo!

We are loving calling him Bob and have him in with the baby girls now and so far so good. No arguing with them that they need to be nice.

When you’re arguing with you hen that thinks she’s the boss and trying to teacher to be nice to the surprise new addition…injuries happen.
* No chickens were injured, only my thumb and only by a 4x4 not a chicken.

Our new addition is now safe in the coop, away from the boss lady. Needless to say Sassy will NOT be getting employee of the week this week! 🤪

Just had an interesting discovery in the hen house! Went out to collect eggs from my ladies and bring them some brunch. I had noticed Big Betty before I went out was sticking to one corner of their house. Normally, when I enter their house they all try to greet me and then enjoy whatever goodies I bring. I collected eggs and Betty was still in the corner. So, I went to grab her and she went to different corner. Then I did a double take! Betty was also at the brunch bowl! 😳

Back story….Friday the ladies were out free ranging while I deep cleaned their house. Gavin was out front doing an oil change on his car, comes in the back and says “ Mom! Are we missing a chicken?” I do a quick count and didn’t see Betty! He says the neighbors two house down have a black chicken in their back yard. We run over and try several times to catch her. While I said why is this so difficult she is usually our easiest to handle? We finally got her, all the while thinking must be the unusual surrounding that has her acting different. Get her and the other ladies back in the house after finishing the deep cleaning. Only to realize two days later she not Betty! 🤪

Employee of the week this week goes to Louise. She is a 1 year old White Leghorn hen. White Leghorn chickens tend to be a little more on the skittish side. This is where she got her name from, her counterpart is Thelma. They always seem to be on the run when it’s time to go back in the coop.
On the plus side they lay approximately 300 large white eggs a year.

Employee of the week this week goes to Lacey. She is one of our Silver Laced Wyandotte Hens. Lacey is pretty docile and easy to handle. She can be found most mornings laying on the eggs. Silver Laced Wyandottes lay approximately 220-280 eggs per year in a creamy light brown color.

Meet some of Zoey’s Zoo newest employees!

We are excited to see the beautiful eggs these cuties start laying in a few months!

They are Black Marans, Blue Marans, and Splash Marans - All will lay rich chocolate brown eggs.

We have had them for almost two weeks now and they have adapted to their new home wonderfully.

Employees of the week goes to Black Betty! Betty is a 1 year old Jersey Giant. She is sweet and docile. She lay approximately 240 extra large brown a year. Many of her eggs were double yolkers. Betty is a big beautiful lady with gorgeous iridescent feathers.

Welcome to Zoey’s Zoo! We have been raising chickens for about 8 years and gardening for about the same amount of time. Each year for the past couple years I have expanded on what I grow. This past winter I took classes to learn more about how and what to grow. I love providing my family and friends with fresh eggs and produce. I love spending time outside with my chickens and working in my garden. The last couple years I decided to start offering fresh eggs and produce to my neighbors and set up a stand.
Our chickens are fed fresh fruits and veggies besides their grain.
Please feel free to stop by and get some eggs. I do wash them but can do unwashed and make arrangements for special pick up. I have and honesty box or Venmo QR code for easy payment.
