A New Chapter at the Connection Center

This week, Transitional/Recovery Housing officially opens at the Connection Center.

There is a significant gap for men who are working toward recovery and stability but don’t have a safe, supportive place to land.

Transitional/Recovery housing is our response to that gap.

Located upstairs at the Connection Center, the program provides men with safe, substance-free housing while they work toward employment, build healthy rhythms, connect with community, and take practical steps toward long-term stability and independence.

This isn’t treatment, and it isn’t simply a place to sleep. It’s a bridge, a place where men can have some stability beneath their feet while they begin building what comes next.

We’re grateful for everyone who has helped us get to this point, and we’re excited to welcome our first men this week.

One more step toward seeing people move from crisis to contribution.

The next time you walk into Solid Grounds, you’ll notice something new.

Created by hometown artist Nathan Smiddy, this mural tells a story. It’s about remembering where we’ve been, recognizing who we are today, and believing together in who we can become.

For Nate, this project is deeply personal. Growing up in Jellico, he never imagined life would take him beyond these mountains. However, his recovery journey took him across the country to California, where he discovered both his artistic gifts and a deep compassion for others struggling with addiction. Today, many know him for his work in overdose prevention, where he serves people with dignity, hope, and practical care. After honing his artistic craft in San Diego, he brought both his talent and his story back home to the community that helped shape him.

The words “Made for More” are more than paint on a wall. They reflect what we believe about every person who walks through our doors: no one is defined by their past, everyone has inherent worth, and there is always hope for a better future.

Here’s to remembering where we’ve been.
Awareness of who we are.

And to believing together in who we can become. ☕💎

It’s hard to put into words what you’ve meant to Solid Grounds over the last couple of years. You started as a customer and quickly became so much more, our head barista, a steady presence, and a big part of the personality and feel of this place.

The way you’ve cared for people, carried responsibility, and shown up day after day has left a mark that won’t easily be replaced.

As you wrap up graduate school and step into what God has next, we’re genuinely excited for you. At the same time, you will be deeply missed by so many here.
