We had a fun time today in Mrs Martin’s Culinary Arts 2 class. Showing them how we work with dough, why we use the ingredients we use, some things you need to know about working in the hospitality industry & they all got to stretch and top their own pies!! We only had 2 holes which I’m gonna call a success 😆!! We look forward to doing this at Jefferson Co High School once a semester!! This asinine tax (theft) increase has been proposed directly against businesses such as ours by Jefferson County Commissioner, Gregory Byrd. The county already charges sales tax (theft) on every sale made, property tax (theft) on the real estate, and an annual personal property tax (theft) on every piece of equipment we own which we paid tax on when purchased. We were told directly by County Commissioner Randy Bales that personal property tax on businesses was used for road improvements… because the county darn sure doesn’t come in to help maintain our equipment or property.

From our cursory research Mr Gregory Byrd has never been a business owner, entrepreneur, or been in the grueling service industry. He has always been on the take, never the one taking the risk. We are doing everything we can to make The Talbott Farm Store an affordable and enjoyable place for everyone in the community but bottom feeders like Gregory Byrd seem to have other plans.

It looks like there is a Jefferson County budgeting meeting at 5:30 pm tomorrow, September 14th at the county courthouse. We will be there to voice our opposition to this additional unjust theft. Please join us. And remember, our country has gone to war over far less oppressive taxation (theft) than this.

This was posted on a local county commissioners page (this particular commissioner seems to not agree with said tax increase). ….. we absolutely do not need this in Jefferson County.. we are not a “tourist” town… speak up.. contact your local commissioners and let them know what you think!

🔥🔥UPDATE…. We attended tonight’s meeting with a few other restaurant owners and I was handed a note from the mayor before it started. The proposed tax is DEAD IN THE WATER.. since we are not a “tourist” county. Thank you Mayor Bales!!! 🔥🔥🔥
