This is Jennifer’s story.
We first met Jennifer in 2024 when GrillBilly Smoke was set up at an old gas station on the east end of Morristown. She had been living on the streets for around 14 or 15 years, usually with her dog, Max, by her side.
We would feed her when we saw her, and then sometimes weeks would go by before we saw her again.
One day in November, Jennifer told us she didn’t think she would survive another winter on the streets.
A facility in Kentucky eventually called and said they had a bed for her. The problem was, I had no idea where Jennifer was.
I drove all over Morristown looking behind buildings, down back roads, and near wooded areas. Finally, sitting at a stoplight, I prayed, “God, if it is Your will, please let me find Jennifer today.”
I drove to the old gas station where we used to set up. Jennifer never slept there.
But that morning, there she was, asleep on the sidewalk with Max. Once at the facility in Kentucky doctors discovered she had a uti so severe that the infection would have killed her had she not come in when she did.
The top-left picture is Jennifer and Max in my truck going to Kentucky that day in November 2024.
The top-right picture is Jennifer one year later.
And the bottom picture is Jennifer today, in 2026, preparing to become a manager at a local McDonald’s.
That is what hope can look like.
To our GrillBilly Smoke community, thank you. Whether you have donated money, shared a post, prayed for someone, or simply bought a sandwich from our food truck, you are part of what we are trying to do.
A meal from GrillBilly Smoke is never just a meal.
A little of what comes through our window gets poured back into people when a need is placed in front of us and God leads us to help.
Jennifer is living proof that sometimes a sandwich, a prayer, a ride, and somebody refusing to give up on you can become the beginning of an entirely different life.
Thank you for partnering with us. This is part of what you make possible.
