Eek!! Tomorrow is a BIG day for MM!
At the beginning of market season, MM set a pretty big goal for himself:
He wanted to ride his bike 🚲 from our home in Ithaca all the way to the Alma Farmers Market, work the market with us, and then ride his bike ALL the way back home 😳
And he hasn’t just talked about doing it — he’s been preparing for it.
He’s been riding 10+ miles almost every day, building up his endurance, and going over the trail and directions with us so he knows exactly where he needs to go.
Tomorrow, he’s finally going to attempt it.
And if everything cooperates, he’s going to try to LIVE STREAM his ride!
As his mom, though, I can’t help but think about everything that has led to a moment like this.
Because a few years ago, we started Popcorn Planet hoping to teach him some basic money skills.
I never imagined it would help give him the confidence to set big goals for himself and believe he could actually accomplish them.
And that didn’t happen because of popcorn alone.
It happened because of PEOPLE 🥰
Family. Friends. Neighbors. Customers. Other small-business owners. Market organizers. And an entire community that has continued to give him opportunities, encourage him, include him, be patient while he learns, and — most importantly — believe in him.
Life can come with extra challenges when you’re navigating autism, intellectual disability, ADHD, dyslexia, or other disabilities. Sometimes the world can be really good at telling people what they can’t do.
I’m incredibly grateful MM has so many people around him asking instead:
“What CAN you do?”
Tomorrow, we get to watch him find out!
So if you’re awake early tomorrow morning, check our page to see if MM’s livestream is up and running. Drop him some encouragement, cheer him on, and then come see him when he makes it to the Alma Farmers Market! 🚲🍿
And after all that pedaling, he’ll still have some work to do…
Because Detroit Lions, we’re still coming for you! 😂🦁
We’ll be selling popcorn and getting that counter closer and closer to 1,000 bags — and we’re still trying to convince you to buy bag #1,000! 👀🍿
Tomorrow is going to be a good day.
We will be at the Alma Market from 8-1 or until we sell out!
