When I moved into my first apartment, my dad gave me some invaluable advice about home security. He even came out and changed the screws on my door for me. Recently, someone else posted about this tip, and I thought I’d share it with you all!
Home Security Tip:
Most contractors use the supplied screws for door plates, which are only about half an inch long. These short screws can be easily kicked out by a burglar. Instead, my dad replaced them with 4-inch screws that go through the door frame and into the house’s framing. This simple change makes it much harder for a burglar to kick in the door—they'd have to make a lot of noise and spend a lot of time trying!
You can see in the picture that the screw in my dad's hand is the original short one. By making it more difficult for a burglar to break in quickly, you not only buy yourself time to react but also likely deter them from even trying.
Stay safe!
