In 1946, brothers-in-law Nello Silvestrini and Leonard (Bob) Scalcucci returned home from WWII, and while settling back into life in Iron River they bought a bar. They decided to start serving pizza to their crowd‚—a dish they had sampled & loved while traveling during the war. They worked out their own original recipe for this tasty Italian dish, and it was nearly an overnight success. And now, 80 years later, Riverside Pizzeria is still a favorite; you might call it an Iron River institution, or family tradition, loved by multiple generations of pizza consumers who have scattered across the country.
