Christian has been behind the Bread Garden kitchen for nearly 30 years. 👨‍🍳

He started here in 1995 as a baker. A few years in, he left for Givanni's, then Mondo's in West Des Moines and Scottsdale. Eventually he came back to Linn Street, this time as Executive Chef.

He's watched this place turn from a small soup and sandwich shop on Clinton Street into a full grocery store, bakery, and catering operation. Same heart, completely different animal.

There is a reason our catering clients never have to worry about a single thing on the day of their event.

By the time your event day arrives, you have already done the hard part. You found the venue, you sent the invites, you handled the details. What you need from your caterer is to just show up and make it easy.

That is where we come in. Our team drives out to venues up to 35 minutes from our store, arrives fully staffed, sets everything up, and takes care of your guests the same way we take care of the people who come through our doors every morning.

Most people move to Iowa City and discover the wine bar. Mark moved here from the East Coast and built it.

Mark is the person behind every bottle on our wine list and every cheese in our case. He came to Bread Garden with an East Coast palate and an opinion about wine that he is more than happy to share with you.

If you have ever walked up to the wine and cheese bar and felt like you were in good hands, that is Mark.

We asked Jim what he hopes people remember about the Bread Garden 50 years from now. His answer wasn't about the food, it was about the people who walked through the door as a customer and left as part of the family.

Good food and great coffee, right where you need it most. 💛

Always fresh, always homemade, quality first ingredients, and coffee that’s actually great, not just “hospital coffee” great. We’re the little cafe inside 4 of UIHC’s buildings, bringing you Bread Garden quality right to the hospital doors.

Open Monday through Thursday 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM on Fridays and weekends.
