Baan Thai Bistro was proud to serve over 300 people in our community this weekend at the 5th annual Circle City Soiree presented by Weddle Bros. Construction Companies, Inc. for the benefit of the American Cancer Society GenNow Network of Indianapolis.

Held in Indianapolis at VisionLoft The Stutz, this event featured Indianapolis’ finest culinary establishments while offering a variety of small plates, spirits, brews and live entertainment. We were honored to be invited and thrilled to be able to donate our time, talents, and cuisine to such a meaningful and personal cause.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to end cancer as we know it for everyone.

I worked this event in memory of my grandmother, Frances Smith and my stepmother, Karen Smith, whom I lost to cancer. 🩷🎗️ If you have someone in your life whom you’d like to mention in memory of or in honor of their battle with cancer below, we welcome you to do so.

🍊 A favorite among kids and adults alike, our Orange Chicken Stir Fry features delicious chicken bathed in our homemade, sweet and tangy orange sauce, tossed with fresh ginger, topped with white sesame seeds, and served on a bed of jasmine rice.

If we had to name the two dishes most chosen by folks a little nervous about trying Thai food, this would be # 1. What do you think dish # 2 would be?

😭🐯 Why is one of our featured entrées called the Crying Tiger Steak?

Originating from Isan (the Northeast province of Thailand), 10 oz of our marinated, tender, char-grilled angus ball tip steak is served with Thai Basil Fried Rice (or Asian Greens & Jasmine Rice) and a side of our signature spicy sauce for dipping (Nam Jim Jaew).

So what's with the reference to a crying tiger?
🔥 Is it because the Nam Jim Jaew is so spicy it would even make a tiger weep?
🐅 Is it because when the marbled steak is sliced, the alternating patterns of meat and fat resemble a tiger's stripes?
🥲 Is it because as the steak is cooked, the fat renders and drips onto the hot grill like tears falling?
📚 Or is it because of a folktale about a tiger that smelled the smoky, delicious scent of the beef grilling over a charcoal fire, but he arrived too late or couldn't reach it, and he cried in frustration?

Any of the above could be true. Which answer do you like best? 👇🏼

This year, we’re introducing NOW SERVING - a Restaurant Week by Epicurean!

“What is this?”
Simply put, it’s a two-week-long celebration of locally owned restaurants in and around Indianapolis! We’ll be kicking things off August 24–September 6.

“Heeeey… this sounds a lot like another restaurant week.”
You’re right, it does. And that’s very intentional. 😏

Let us explain….
Epicurean Indy is a nonprofit culinary platform elevating Indy’s food culture by centering the voices, stories, and traditions of immigrant and minority chefs. We’re run primarily by volunteers, many of whom have worked in the restaurant industry ourselves.

We’ve participated in that other restaurant week, and we believe the experience can be more accessible and more beneficial to local restaurants. That’s what we’re aiming to create.

“How much does it cost to participate?”
Nothing.

Did you know that other restaurant weeks charge hundreds to thousands of dollars to be on the list of participating businesses? And there is no guarantee that they will make their money back with increased sales.

We are celebrating and promoting local restaurants without asking them to take that risk.

Participation is completely FREE .

“Do I have to be a minority-owned business to participate?”
Nope.

We simply ask that participating restaurants believe everyone deserves a seat at the table, regardless of where they’re from.

“What restaurants are on the list?”
We’re currently signing up participants! Should your restaurant be on the list?
