β€œBaan” means home in Thai, and we want our restaurant to feel like you are in our home, where we serve our favorite, authentic Thai recipes passed down from my grandmother to my mother, to me. Our menu consists of many dishes from my family’s home town in Udon Thani or Issan, a region located in Northeast Thailand. Our food has many dishes that one may find in Laos, as well. Along with other popular Thai dishes, here are some of our Chef’s Favorite Creations: (Khao Soi) Chicken Drumsticks Curry w/ Noodles, Issan Thai Sausage & Sticky Rice (Sai Krok), Crispy Rice Salad (Nam Kai Tod), (Haw Mok) Red Curry Fish Custard, and our Crispy Pork Belly & Char Sui dish.

πŸ’” This post is going to be heavy, so fair warning. I know that's not what we usually do around here, but this is important.

For the past few years, we have had some local Wanamaker patrons who used to visit our restaurant with their granddaughter. They enjoyed meals together here, and we always noticed how much love sat at the table where they dined. This past January, their 17 year old granddaughter, Hailey, went missing.

Police were called. There was a big search, but even though she was a child, they could not issue an Amber Alert because she had left under her own steam with someone she met on the internet. They could not issue a Silver Alert because she did not have any cognitive differences. She was deemed a runaway. The delay in public awareness during the most critical early hours of a disappearance proved fatal.

Her remains were recovered the following month in Ohio. The 39-year-old man she had left with is currently in custody and awaiting indictment in October.

Her family is now fighting to bring awareness to the need for a different kind of alert classification for missing persons and children when credible risk factors exist and to put child education programs in place to teach about the dangers of modern online predators and grooming. Hailey's family is working to make the πŸŽ€ Pink Alert a reality.

Now, why tell you all this? We have the Wanamaker Old Settlers Day Festival coming up on June 28th from 9AM-3PM. We have collaborated with Hailey's family to have a booth directly next to ours during the festival to share information with the community on how to prevent more tragedies in our state and protect children from online predators.

We will also be offering FREE samples of Pink Noodles in memory of Hailey Buzbee. Pink was her favorite color. πŸ’•

Stay tuned for more information about the other festival exclusive menu items we will have available, and be sure to stop by for your free sample of Pink Noodles and to help make Hailey's Law and the πŸŽ€ Pink Alert a reality.

If you made it to the end of this post, let us know if we will see you next Sunday on June 28th. πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

πŸ§‹Okay, so we borrowed from the country of Taiwan on this one, but to be fair, so did the rest of Asia!

History Time! πŸ€“ Bubble Tea became popular in the 1980s in Taiwan tea shops. Taiwan is an island located off the Southeast coast of China. The concept of combining tea with condensed milk, flavored syrups, and tapioca pearls ("bubbles") spread like wildfire. When it hit Thailand, makers began making bubble tea with spiced Thai tea.

We've taken things a step further (as we do). You can absolutely try traditional Thai Iced Tea (cha yen) with its vibrant orange color and bright, warm spices like star anise, crushed tamarind, and cardamom, OR you can try this beautiful, naturally blue bubble tea made by steeping butterfly pea flowers! 🩡 You can also try Thai Bubble Tea in mango, taro, or brown sugar!
