Everyone's got a ghost story. Or a friend who does. A light that shouldn't have turned on, a voice with no one behind it, a dream that came true a week too soon.

So — is it stupid to believe them?

This month we're tackling one of philosophy's oldest party fouls: what actually makes a belief reasonable? We'll start with David Hume's 18th-century wrecking ball of an argument against believing in miracles — his claim that no testimony should ever convince you that a law of nature has been broken, because it's always more likely the witness is lying, mistaken, or just really wants a good story.

Then we'll break it. Does Hume's argument hold up against your own eyes, not someone else's testimony? Is dismissing every weird personal experience actually the rational move, or just a comfortable one? Where's the line between healthy skepticism and simply refusing to update your beliefs no matter what you see?
