Join us as we celebrate the history behind the Gedney name and take a trip back to 1892, when the original Gedney Hotel & Opera House opened its doors in downtown Independence.

📍 You'll find us right next to the entertainment stage in the heart of the RAGBRAI Festival Area, making us the perfect place to grab a drink without missing the action.

🎉 Reopen 3:00 PM - 10:00 PM with a limited drink only menu during the evening festivities.

🚧 We're Still Open During RAGBRAI Setup! ☕🥐

Beginning Wednesday, July 22 at 5:00 p.m., the streets surrounding Gedney Bakery & Coffeehouse will be closed for RAGBRAI festival setup and will remain closed until the morning of Friday, July 24.

We'll be here throughout the festivities with special hours on Thursday:
🕗 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
🌙 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Getting to Gedney the morning of Thursday, July 22:
🚗 To access parking behind our building, use 2nd Street NE and enter the City parking lot from there. The lot will fill up quickly!

🚶 Sidewalks will remain open, so you can easily walk to our entrance at the corner of 2nd Avenue NE & 1st Street East.

Whether you're grabbing your morning coffee, a scratch-made pastry, lunch, or stopping by during the evening festivities, we're excited to welcome you. Thank you for your patience as downtown gets ready for an incredible RAGBRAI celebration. See you soon!

Independence Day is almost here!

If you're heading downtown for Saturday's parade, make Gedney part of your celebration.

Stop in before the parade to grab your favorite scratch-made pastry or breakfast treat, along with a fresh cup of coffee, an iced latte, tea, or lemonade. If you're already enjoying the festivities, we're just a short walk away and the perfect place to pop in for a tasty treat.

We'll be open Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to Noon, giving you plenty of time to stop by before or during the morning's festivities.
