❤️SORRENTO PIZZERIA 40th ANNIVERSARY ❤️
40 years!!!
On April 16th, 1986, our parents, Pat and Cindy Magro, opened Sorrento Pizzeria in Ilion, NY. They took a risk that changed everything for our family. Our dad was laid off from Re*****on Arms. Our mom left her job at the bank. They gave up steady paychecks to chase something they believed in.
Growing up, Sorrento wasn’t just where we worked, it’s where we were raised. We didn’t just grow up in a house, we grew up in the pizzeria. Doing homework in the booths, answering phones, washing dishes, learning how to talk to people, and learning what family, sacrifice and hard work really looks like.
Whether we realized it or not, we were being shaped by it every single day.
And if you’re from around here, you were part of it too.
They poured everything they had into this place, not just to make a living, but to build something meaningful for our FAMILY and our COMMUNITY. Because of them, Sorrento became more than a pizzeria, it became part of people’s lives.
Some of the Best Memories when High School Students from all over the Valley, Herkimer, Ilion, Frankfort, and Mohawk, all meeting up for lunch. The place packed, loud, full of energy and everyone ordering the same thing: the famous 2 slices and a soda for $1.50 or $2.00 depending which decade you came in.
Those weren’t just meals.
Those were memories.
Looking back now, we see it differently. The long hours. The stress. The sacrifices. Our parents showed up every single day and kept going. They didn’t just build a business, they built something that became part of an entire community.
And now, 40 years later, that means everything.
As kids, we didn’t realize how much time, energy, and sacrifice our parents put into making our lives safe, comfortable, and happy.
Now we do.
We see everything you gave up so we could have more. Thank you for taking that chance, showing us what commitment, resilience, and pride truly look like. This legacy exists because of you.
Because the truth is……..
It started with a risk
It was built with sacrifice
But it survived because of family.
40 years later it’s still about family. Always has been.
To everyone who has supported us over the past 40 years, Thank You. Whether you’ve been coming in since day one or just stopped by for the first time, you are part of this story.
