We have some news to share. Tough news. The Fork & Gavel will be ceasing operations. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 - 𝟗/𝟏𝟖/𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏. We simply do not have the staff to operate. To say this has been a tough time and decision for us would be an understatement. We have so loved being a part of this community, growing this business, feeding you, and all the adventures that a restaurant/catering business brings.
We opened our doors March 2019, and have had a rollercoaster in the first few years of business - we got married, renovated a building from the 1800's, opened a restaurant, had a baby, the world shut down, we renovated again, opened again in a new format, and we have been fighting like hell to keep the doors open. The pandemic, the current state of our industry, increasing cost of goods, and staffing woes have proven to be insurmountable. We simply cannot justify keeping operations going. Rest assured, we have tried every avenue for grants, loans, etc. We have had employees leave, some for personal reasons, some for other jobs. We have consistently and persistently had ads for staff. Many no showed for interviews or work. We appreciate the 2 folks who did reach out, but we cannot continue to operate on a skeleton crew. its just not enough. We feel as though we could copy and paste these words from messages we have seen all over our state and the country. This is not isolated to our Lamoille county corner of the world, it is crippling so many small businesses. We don't take comfort in that, its a scary reality, but it eases the feeling of failure a bit.
To our beloved staff who stuck it out - what can we say, we so appreciate you 🖤 and your dedication to good food and the Gavel. You are part of what made this place so special. Thank you.
We hope to see you - come hang and PARTY with us tonight and tomorrow - we are open 4PM - 8PM for fun, good food, probably some tears, and definitely beers. Come have one last burger or waffle fry order! Help us push through this large food order we just got it, as we thought we would still be here.
This is not goodbye, this is see you later - just differently.
From the bottom of our hearts - THANK YOU. 🖤
Oh, and.... please support your local establishments - they need it.
