🇺🇸 Two Kansas Greatest Generation icons will help commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France next week. Olen Mitchell is a 102-year-old WWII veteran who received a Purple Heart for his service in Europe, and "Rosie the Riveter" Connie Palacioz was just a teenager when she worked at Boeing as a riveter on the the B-29 Superfortress production line during the war.

Starting tomorrow, May 21st, 2024, the Carey Park dump site will be open for your convenience from 8 AM to 5 PM. The site will operate Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with the exception of next Monday, Memorial Day, when we will be closed.

Please note: Residents are responsible for disposing of their own limbs. To accommodate everyone during this time, The City will not be enforcing debris pick up over the next two weeks.

These sites are available to residents only. We request that contractors dispose their debris at the landfill per usual. At this time we are only taking tree limbs. Other household waste, mulch, wood chips, and other bulky items are not permitted.

This week, the Kansas Healthcare Collaborative highlighted our partnership with the Reno Recovery Collaborative (RRC).

In this partnership our mission is to ensure greater capacity to access health care for the recovery community and greater Reno County. As a part of this collaboration, an Opioid Stewardship Committee was formed, which is also attended by members of the RRC. This collaboration has fostered significant change in how care for individuals suffering from Substance Abuse Disorder is delivered and perceived, by providers, patients, and the community.

After church, I gave my granddaughters a sack and we played a game of "who can pick up the most trash". We walked down my block, walked across the street and came back up. We made sure to clean all four corners of Avenue A and Main Street.

I promise this girls will be sweetly rewarded for helping clean up our Main Street block!

Imagine being an adult trying to explain to children that we must remain joyful cleaning trash that should have never been left in the streets.

So many candy wrappers, candy not picked up, alcohol bottles up, drink cups and fast food bags! Imagine our trash bags times all the blocks along the parade route!?!

Hopefully, next year, we can organize a Sunday Morning clean up crew! I would be happy to serve Hot Chocolate and provide Donuts from Daylight Donuts to those that join the crew!!

Parking along Main Street will begin closing down at 3pm today. Main Street baracades will be going up at 4pm.
If you have staged your vehicles on the street south of the railroad tracks at DCI Park, you will need to move these vehicles ASAP. This will be a a pedestrian only area and where we will be having the judging stage.
Thanks to everyone for their cooperation. Let's have a great parade and Light Up Hutch!
