Paula spent twenty-two years as an elementary school teacher and has now decided to follow her longtime dream of becoming a full-time artist!

"Every painting is a reflection of who I am. My hope is that someone will discover a piece of their own story in my work and leave with a feeling that lingers long after they've walked away."

We've got many new followers, so allow us to reintroduce ourselves! We're Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, the largest privately owned arts organization in the United States. But before this historic 1901 textile mill supported hundreds of artists, makers, and independent businesses, it had a rich history spanning over a century!

Lowe Mill began production in textile manufacturing in 1901 through 1936. The mill then transitioned to shoe production in 1945, later producing the majority of combat boots worn by U.S. soldiers in the Vietnam War. Manufacturing ended in 1979, beginning a limbo period for the mill.

In 2001, Jim Hudson, founder of HudsonAlpha and Research Genetics, purchased Lowe Mill. Hudson’s dream was an arts center where creative minds could thrive and share their creativity with the public. The following year, Flying Monkey Arts, a grassroots community artists’ collective, began pop-up performances and markets in the mill. In 2006, the Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment you know and love was founded, and expansion continued throughout the building. In 2014, we officially became the largest privately owned arts institution in the U.S. when we opened our North Floor, and the rest is history!

Want to learn more or take a step back in time? Come explore Lowe Mill A&E today! In addition to 300+ makers and creatives in working studios, you'll see history all around you, whether it be preserved relics, exposed brick and original flooring, or of course, our iconic water tower!
