HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS — A routine July 2026 health inspection in Huntsville has placed the Fox and Barrel restaurant under required follow up review after the establishment received a score of 77, which falls into the C range on the city’s grading scale.
Inspectors visited the business at 2801 Sam Houston Ave and documented a substantial list of violations. Under Huntsville’s system, scores of 100–90 are an A, 89–80 a B, 79–71 a C, and 70 and below an F. Any score 80 or below automatically requires a re‑inspection.
The July report cited expired product pulled from a cooler, accumulation inside the ice machine, and multiple instances of food stored without required prep dates or seven day expiration labels. Inspectors also noted improper use of the ware washing sink and a chemical used over cut vegetables, both considered contamination risks.
Temperature control issues were also recorded, including improper cold‑hold temperatures and a hot‑line cooler that was not maintaining safe conditions. A reach‑in freezer leak had caused major ice buildup.
Sanitation concerns included a can opener with heavy food debris, a dishwasher with sanitizer levels testing too weak, soiled wiping cloths, and major grease accumulation on the vent hood. An open can stored in a cooler was also flagged.
Hand‑washing stations were another problem area. One lacked soap and paper towels, while another was blocked and had a non‑functional hot water k**b. The report also noted unlabeled bulk containers, a scoop stored improperly, and water pooling behind the hot line.
The restaurant was additionally reminded that employees must obtain Food Handler Certifications within 30 days of hire.
With a score of 77, Fox and Barrel must correct all violations and pass a re‑inspection to remain in compliance with Huntsville’s food safety standards.
