One of the greatest gifts Petalcakes has given me has absolutely nothing to do with cupcakes. 💕🌸

It’s the people.

Yesterday was the birthday of one of my very first repeat customers, Krupa. She has been loyal to Petalcakes since basically day one, and we hit it off IMMEDIATELY when we met. Her girl-boss energy is infectious, and I remember thinking pretty quickly, Yep. I want to be her friend. 😂

So when her friend Shelly called me wanting to surprise Krupa for her birthday, she made my whole day for more than one reason.

She originally called to order a cake or cupcakes… except, of course, Krupa already had a cake ordered with me. 😂 So we needed a new plan.

Then Shelly said something that really got me.

She specifically wanted Krupa’s gift to come from Petalcakes because she knew how much that would mean to her. She knew that supporting her friend’s business would be a gift to Krupa in itself.

😭😭😭

And THAT is the kind of friendship I want around me.

So we came up with personalized cookies featuring photos of the two of them, added some fresh flowers, and I am absolutely obsessed with how it all came together. 🌸

Shelly, thank you for trusting me with such a sweet surprise.

And Krupa—thank you for every order, every bit of encouragement, and every time you’ve supported this little business of mine.

But even more than that, thank you for becoming my friend.

There is absolutely no doubt that you are incredibly loved. 💕 And I feel pretty lucky that somehow, because of cupcakes, I get to be one of the people who loves you.

I celebrate the entire month.
September is my favorite month of the year — obviously — and since y’all support my little Booked & Unhinged world, I figured you should get to celebrate with me. 🖤

First up — we’re opening EARLIER! 🎉

Our Gibson Mill Market location is now open at 8AM Monday–Saturday! Sundays we are open 12-7. Come grab your coffee on the way to work… or, even better, bring the laptop, grab a latte + a pastry, and make Gibson Mill your office for the morning. 💻☕️🧁

ANDDDD… THE FALL MENU JUST DROPPED. 🍁

We’ve got all the cozy happening, but I have to give a special shoutout to our Fluffernutter Latte — creamy peanut butter + toasted marshmallow, topped with marshmallow fluff. Basically my childhood in a coffee cup. 😂🥜☕️

I LOVE when customers come to me with the coolest ideas and basically say, “Can you make this into cupcakes?” 🌸🩵

And the answer is obviously YES. 😂

This 24-cupcake cake was created for an 80th birthday and designed to look like a vintage Ball mason jar overflowing with buttercream flowers — complete with “Having a Ball Since 1946.”

80 years deserves something a little more fun than a traditional birthday cake. 💐🧁

We lost a neighbor this week. It was sudden, heartbreaking, and devastating for a family we care deeply about.

I didn’t know what to do, so I immediately reached out to my friends, my current “coworkers” in the Gibson Mill food hall and asked if they could quickly put together some catering trays that I could purchase for the family.

Every response was some version of:

“I’ll have the food ready. But I don’t want your money. I’m so sorry for your loss.”

This is community.

These are family-owned small businesses run by real people who show up for one another, even when this industry is hard and so many of us are struggling ourselves.

Please go out and support places like these. Support my friends. Support your neighbors. Support the small businesses that quietly take care of their communities when it matters most.

Because when you support a small business, you’re helping them continue to show up for others, too. ❤️

Last week was a doozy. 😅

We put out plenty of beautiful treats—but behind the scenes, things were a little less picture perfect.

A bag of flour was so heavy it knocked Eliza right over.

A sink flooded.

And an entire grocery delivery meant for the bakery was accidentally delivered to our house…where no one was home to save it before everything had to be thrown away. 🫠

Small-business ownership: where the cupcakes are gorgeous, but the week is occasionally held together with buttercream, paper towels, and sheer determination.

Not every week goes according to plan. Sometimes you clean up the mess, laugh so you don’t cry, and keep creating beautiful things anyway.

And that’s exactly what we did. 🌸

Imagine trusting me with a secret this big when I can barely keep quiet about a new cookie flavor. 😂

These sweet little cupcakes are about to be filled with pink or blue—and even the parents-to-be don’t know which one! Getting to hold such an exciting secret until the big reveal is one of the sweetest parts of my job. 🩷🩵

Don’t worry… my lips are sealed and the cupcakes aren’t talking. 🤐🧁
