Say Hello to Steve. He’s become a good friend and works next door at Dona Maria

“Whenever Steve works next door, he always comes by to visit and barges through the front door the way Kramer always entered a room on Seinfeld. His first words are always ‘Whatchu doin?’

On this day when he came in, he was off work, dressed up and ready to hit the streets and enjoy his weekend. I asked to take this photo because he was dressed exactly the way my older brother Chito use to dress. Khakis, well pressed flannel, clean chucks, finished off with the sweet brimmed hat. If this was a wedding or quinceañera he was going to, those shoes would be a shiny pair of Stacy Adams.

My brother Chito, 4 years older than me, passed away 2 years ago after years and years of battling various addictions, namely he**in. He was a good dude with a big heart, but he just couldn’t beat that addiction. He was definitely what you’d call a true Chicano. Just wanted to honor him in a post after seeing this photo of Steve in my phone. May he rest in peace.” - Hector / OSO founder.

Yo Cyclists, are you ready to ride next year’s MS150 with us?

We’re gearing up for next year’s ride which is April 24 - 25th. Registration opens in October and we’re getting started early so there’s plenty of time to order kits and start training.

And even if you can’t join the MS ride we’ll have these kits available for purchase for anyone that wants to rock one.

Home Baristas and those aspiring to work in the industry, we have two workshops coming this month as part of our Summer Sessions series.

HOME BREWING BASICS | AUG 6: $40
This Workshop / Course is designed to provide training for a variety of DIY Home Brewing basics.

This course will teach and cover the following:

- Understanding grind settings for various home brewing techniques

- Cold Brew basics
- Pour over basics
- French Press basics
- Moka Pot Basics (cuban & vietnamese coffees)
- Misc Coffee brewing tools & brewing etiquette
- Each class includes complimentary drinks, cocktails if you wish, and lite bites.

THE HOME BARISTA | AUG 13: $175
This Workshop / Course is designed to provide proper barista basics that can help any coffee enthusiast beef up their home barista skills. Students of this course will receive foundational barista training and knowledge, taking what they’ve learned as a point of entry into the profession.

The ULTIMATE GOAL of this course is to provide training and offer an entry-level skill that can help change someone’s life and create a new career path in the industry. More in-depth training can be provided to those interested in working in the industry outside of this basic workshop.

This course will teach and cover the following:

- Coffee history

- Proper espresso machine operation

- Understanding the different grind settings for various coffee brewing techniques

- “Dialing In” the coffee grinder and the perfect espresso shot

- How to steam milk (whole and alternative milks)

- How to prepare all of the classic espresso based drinks

- Brewing machine maintenance (daily cleaning protocols for espresso machine, grinder, and other brewing tools)

- Pour over basics

- Latte art basics

- Each class includes complimentary drinks, cocktails if you wish, and lite bites.
