Is the new art cafe appointment only? The short answer is I highly recommend it, but stay for the longer answer because there is a lot of thought behind this change, and I'd love to share those thoughts with ya'll.
If you've been to the old Honey Art Cafe, you'll know that it was mostly walk in. while on the surface that seemed more convenient for customers, in practice it was often chaotic for everyone. Unlike a traditional sit down restaurants with a dedicated host and predictable dining times, people were doing art and often could stay for either 45 minutes or 4 hours, and we struggled to provide customers with a consistent craft studio experience because busy times would be borderline uncomfortably crowded, and wait times for tables were never predictable.
When it came time to open this new location, I thought about this for months before deciding to divide each day into 2 hour sessions and shift to appointment based. Something about this format aligned so well with the experience I've always wanted to provide - an art studio where people to come create with friends or meet new people. When everyone arrives at the same time for a session, it is satisfyingly reminiscent of high school art class, or maybe I'm just being nostalgic. During busy times, the studio is humming with activity but not overcrowded. People also get to see each other's art projects from start to finish over the course of the two hours. The session format supported that experience for the customer and also my desire to go back to basics and operate as an art teacher, host, and business owner - in that order.
That said, I always accommodate walk-ins if possible and dropping in to pick up drinks or macarons is always welcome :)
